Puck van den Bosch

I softly opened the door, trying not to make a sound. I walked in the direction of the stairs on my toes. I held my breath then I heard some noise and my heart started pounding in my throat so loudly that I was afraid that it would give me away. My instincts told me to run up the stairs as fast as I could, but I knew better. If I did that, it would only get worse.

"So, you're finally back."

I winced and turned around. In front of me was the man I despised, that I hated.

My own father.

The smell of alcohol hung around him like a swarm of bees and in his hand was an almost empty wine bottle.

'I'm surprised he hasn't finished it yet.' Blaine was angry, furious. He was right; it was strange that my father hadn't finished the bottle yet.

That wasn't good.

He staggered towards me and squinted his eyes.

"This is all your fault!" he shouted in my face.

I closed my eyes and wanted to close my nose to, since his breath reeked of alcohol. My father swung his fist at me and I took a staggered backwards.

If I resisted I would only make it worse, so I decided to just endure it again.

He swung again, this time hitting me in the stomach. The third time his fist made contact with my ribs. I started breathing heavily and felt the life drain from me. But I couldn't show it; I had to stay strong. I couldn't fall apart.

This just kept going on, my father hitting me and me just staggering backwards. It wouldn't be long before I would fall to the ground, and then the kicking would start.

I was right.

I tripped and fell to the ground with a thud. I tried to catch myself with my hands but my father stepped on my fingers.

I felt them slowly break.

My ribs were surely bruised already and when my father was done with me, they would be broken.

If not for the fact that I was a wolf, I would be dead by now.

He kicked his foot back against my ribs and stomach, and as if that wasn't enough, he pulled me back up and squeezed my throat shut.

But of course not long enough to free me from this hell.

He threw me against the wall and the impact blew all the air from my lungs.

"Fucking brat!" he shouted and threw the wine bottle towards my head. Because of my many injuries I was too slow to evade it.

A sharp feeling went through my body. I automatically pressed my hand against my face, and it immediately got covered with blood from my cheek.

My father walked away and left me there, bleeding. Tears burned in my eyes, but I didn't cry.

I never cried and I never would.

-

There was an ugly and deep cut in my cheek and I had to pull the glass out. A few shards had also made its way into my chest, but that didn't leave much damage. I had to go to the store to buy special bandages. Blaine had no strength left to heal us. I had temporarily put on some ordinary bandages, but if I didn't want to have an ugly scar I had to go to the store.

But even then I would probably have a scar.

I had changed into another shirt with difficulty; my ribs were bruised and some of them were probably broken. But it wasn't so bad. It could always be worse.

My father proved that every time. Whenever I thought it couldn't get any worse, it did. But I was used to it.

I sneaked downstairs and saw my father knocked out on the couch. For a moment I had the urge to go over and just strangle him. It was so easy now.

He couldn't fight back. But I didn't do it; I couldn't. As quickly as I could I went to the store.

I also had to get food, because knowing my father, we wouldn't have anything in the house. In the store I decided to go to the food department first, to see what I could buy for tonight.

I wanted to continue walking, but I wasn't paying enough attention and bumped into another body.

Nova Rijn

I let out a deep sigh when I closed the door behind me.

"I'm home!" I yelled.

"Hey, sweetie." My mother called back.

I dropped my bag on the ground with a soft thud and walked towards a door at the end of the hallway.

"Hey, mom."

I opened the door and peeked inside. "Hey honey." My mother greeted me while she kept staring at the computer screen. She had decorated the room to be her office, so she could shut mine and Jesse's fights out. And because Sara still demanded a lot of attention.

"What time is it?" she mumbled more to herself than to me. "Oh no."

"What?" I asked, concerned. My mother always made it seem like someone had been murdered, when in fact she only forgot about small things.

"I still have to go to the store for dinner tonight, but I also have a five-o'clock deadline and the store is about to close."

I understood what she wanted, so I decided to just offer it. "Shall I go to the store for you?"

My mother smiled at me. "That'd be great." I nodded and received some money to pay for the groceries.

I could decide what we'd have for dinner as long as there were vegetables in it. I grabbed my ear buds from my backpack and plugged them into my phone.

I turned on my music while I stepped outside.

"See you in a bit." I called before I closed the door behind me with a loud bang.

Shit!
I mentally face-palmed myself and opened the door again. I sprinted to my room and quickly grabbed my penny board from the ground.

I ran back downstairs and really left this time.

As soon as I was outside I stepped onto my penny board and rode down the street. I kinda knew the way to the store, since it was a must for me to know where to get food. I loved food.

I hummed along to the song and arrived at the Liaso Square. It was a big square and in the middle of it was a fountain. Everywhere on and around the square were little terraces and shops. I rolled down the square and went into a street to the left. I then took a right turn and kept going straight ahead for a while. Finally a big all-in-one store popped up. I picked my penny board up and held it under my arm. I entered the store and walked down the shelves.

What should we eat tonight? I grabbed some frozen peas from the freezer. What would go nicely with peas? Oh right, meat! But what kind of meat?

I continued talking to myself like that. I eventually decided to get hamburgers and potatoes. Now that I had everything, I tried to make my way to the checkout. Very inconvenient, such a big store.

"Oh, sorry." I mumbled when I bumped into someone. I looked up and saw a pair of friendly eyes. I immediately got a warm feeling and a smile appeared on my face.

"Hey Pu- what happened to your face?!"
