Nova Rijn

Everything happened in a blur. I had lost feeling of reality. I silently followed the group and occasionally blinked a couple of times. Many times I had opened my mouth to say something, anything, but nothing came out.

Speechless.

We had left the forest a while ago and me, Puck and a very attractive man were now sitting in a big room. There was a desk, multiple chairs and two small couches. I sat next to Puck, staring at a wall. Puck had one arm draped around me and was rubbing his thumb over my shoulder in small circles, to calm me. The very attractive man kept staring at Puck and I and kept growling every once in a while.

"Mine!"

Puck nodded and smiled weakly at the man.

"I know. She's yours." He said and let go of my shoulder.

A feeling of ease took over me: it had felt wrong for Puck to touch me like that. I shook my head in confusion and blinked again. I still couldn't comprehend what had happened.

Man, wolf, man.

Wolf, man, wolf.

Man wolf. Wolf man.

I was going crazy. I was losing it.

Jacob Light

Rage and jealousy flowed through my veins, looking at the pup sitting next to my mate. My mate!

"Mine!" I growled and bared my teeth.

The boy nodded and immediately withdrew his arm from Nova's small shoulders. "I know. She's yours."

At that moment, Nova cleared her throat.

"I think it's time to go. I have to say it's been swell, but I really have to go now."

She stood up and wanted to walk out of the room. I was faster than her and grabbed her wrist.

"Oh no, babe. I'm not letting you go."

Her cheeks slightly colored at the use of the nickname and I enjoyed the tingles shooting through my hand.

Oh, how I had looked forward to this. And Nova was even better than I could have hoped or dreamed.

"Puck, do something!" she hissed towards the boy on the couch. All he did was laugh sheepishly and shrugged.

"Sorry, Nova."

Nova rolled her eyes and focused on me again.

"No matter how much I enjoy coming up with names for you-" she started and I took the hint.

"-Jacob, my name is Jacob. But everyone calls me Jake or Alpha Jake."

Nova nodded and it seemed like a slight hint of amusement flashed through her eyes.

"Alpha Jake, huh? Wow."

"No matter how amusing this conversation may be, I think it's time to talk." Puck broke the small banter between Nova and I in a calm voice. He didn't want to seem disrespectful towards an Alpha.

"You're right." I answered and let Nova go. I eased her back into a chair and took a seat on the other side of her.

I started talking. I started with small sentences and baby language, but I eventually started talking in long and complicated sentences. But miraculously enough, Nova seemed to understand my story. She nodded now and then and also asked a few questions.

I had to admit that I was pretty surprised about her reaction. Most people would've run for the hills, screaming. But here she was, having a calm conversation with me. About werewolves!

"Nova, do you understand?"

She slowly nodded and bit her lip. By the small crease in her forehead I knew she was thinking deeply.

"But what does any of this have to do with me?"

I sighed. For a second there I was afraid that she was going to reject me. Not that I had told her that she could. No, that would have been crazy.

I hadn't even told her about mates yet.

"Nova, do you know what soul mates are?" I asked, hoping that she would have at least a little knowledge about this.

She nodded, but didn't say anything.

"Every wolf has a mate. Mate is short for soul mate." I explained and looked up at her. I saw curiosity in her face and a grin appeared on mine.

"A mate is your other half. He or she can calm you down when no one else can. A mate will love you unconditionally and never want anyone else. A mate is someone you can't live without."

She looked at me in confusion, but I could tell from her expression that she hadn't made the connection yet.

"And?"

"And..." I continued. "You are my mate."

"Oh, that's possible too."

A laugh made us both turn around: Puck had a big smile on his face and was lightly shaking his head.

"Nova, oh god, Nova," Puck laughed. "Oh and Alpha Jake."

He didn't continue, because Nova also started laughing. It was the most beautiful sound I had ever heard, but my dirty-minded wolf had to make a comment.

'I think you'll change your opinion when you hear her during the mating.'
