Chapter Three

Natsu

I was just sitting peacefully with Lucy and Gray when all of a sudden my watch went off. It only beeps when there's an emergency somewhere in the city, and I automatically tensed, scrambling to stand up.

I made up a lie and rushed out of the school after giving Gray my number. I knew that impending doom was somewhere nearby, but I couldn't say no to that innocent expression he made.

Honestly, I never let anyone push my emotions around like this. The real me was a kickass, crime-fighting mutant child who put on an innocent façade to monitor the school. In reality, I was the farthest from innocent. I've seen things that would make you want to gouge out your eyeballs and kill your self by swigging bleach. Anyway, no one knew what my true identity was- not even the principal.

I mean, it was common sense, right? That's why we superheroes wear masks. Our identity is concealed for a reason. My reason being the fact I never wanted to get sent back to the top-secret mutant-creation lab I was created from. That place was scarier than your worst nightmare times three thousand.

My thoughts kept drifting back to the sweetheart I was lucky enough to reconnect with. Oh, Gray, since that night when I saved him, every time I think about him my heart skips a beat, what the hell is happening? He's made me feel things I'd never felt and it's annoying to be honest.

I pushed my thoughts out of my head and looked at my surroundings when I exited the school building.

I quickly found a private corner outside the school to adjust. I removed my bulky jacket and rolled out my shoulders, already feeling my wings aching to stretch out again. I tore off the Ramones logo I had stuck to my shirt, revealing my real shirt- an angel wing logo with a loopy, cursived A between them.

I slipped my black satin mask over my face and hid my backpack in a bush, mentally noting to come back later to get it.

Making sure the coast was clear, I took off running towards the city bank, where my watch said the place of crime was taking place. I cursed out loud, remembering that it was broad daylight outside and anyone could spot me. Knowing I wouldn't be able to fly and risk getting caught, I quickened my running pace, pushing myself to the brink of my physical limits.

Luckily, my scientist-mutator-parent-creator-people had blessed me with gifted DNA. My body was more nimble and I had long legs, gracing me with relatively-awesome running power. In case you were curious, I also had an extremely high IQ and super strength (no, not like the Hulk. Mine was way more low-grade and not as awesome. Or green.)

Oh yeah, I also had wings.

Yep, that's right. I'm part angel, I guess you could say. In reality, I just had a tiny bit of bird DNA chemically grafted onto me before birth, but part-angel sounds cooler on a resume.

Right, and this is the part where I kick ass, I thought slyly as I rushed into the scene. I heard a shrill, feminine scream and possibly a gunshot.

I never seemed to get used to hearing that sound. I just can't help but think that a split second after that sound, someone or something could very well die. It didn't make my skin crawl, however. I had seen too many horrifyingly disgusting things in my life to be fazed by something that minor in this world.

I arrived to see a frail woman crouched into a little ball at the foot of the bulky kidnapper and holding up her shaky hands.

"O-okay! J-just please don't shoot a-again." She stuttered out and I rushed over soundlessly and placed my large hand on her attacker's shoulder.
