Chapter Six: Countdown to Infinity

The process had finally really began but what was it going to be like?-Nobody knew! The arena was something pretty new, an experiment you may say. Sormesa, its creator, had given a rough description to the council; a true test of the limits real and imagined. But Sormesa was a very mysterious man and trusting him was more or less a leap of faith-a heap load of faith. Taking chances wasn't one of the council's methods and that is why they convened for a final sitting to decide if the arena was the most viable training modus operandi.

"Where is Sormesa?!"Soycoss asked, getting tired of waiting. Most of the holders were around but the wait for the rest of them was beginning to look infinite.

"Yeah...I don't think he's coming." Monero responded, "And Xu isn't around either!"

"Now you know what it feels like to wait for someone with no sense of punctuality!" Austime chided Soycoss.

"Oh shut up bald head!!"She yelled at him.

"I am not bald, I am bold!!"He corrected her.

"Can you not start a quarrel!!"Djen scolded them, "We have a very serious matter at hand!"

"Sormesa won't be able to make it, he sends his regrets..." said a voice moving into the hall. Many of the holders turned to see who it was...

"Hmm...even Smyth wasn't around!" Monero noticed.

"What about Xu?!"Chronomus asked Smyth.

"I haven't heard from him..."Smyth responded as he sat down.

"That's strange...it's unlike Xu to skip council sittings!!"Claspem noticed.

"Doesn't this whole thing become pointless if Sormesa isn't around?!"Takerine wondered out loud.

"It was never about him..." Dominus responded, "The arena is the issue at hand."

"And what it could do to those children." He added.

"What has changed in the past few hours?!" Takerine asked referring to the fact that the arena had not come up in the council sitting a few hours earlier that same day.

"Nothing has changed." Dominus responded, "Our concern has always been doing what is right regardless of its consequences."

"Monero has revealed her doubts to me regarding the rightness of the methods used in training." He added, "And it's my duty as the head of this council to ensure that our collective conscience is kept clear..."

"Excuse me but I don't think I'm getting you clearly..."Austime interjected.

"What exactly did we do that isn't right?!"He asked.

"For starters, letting crazy Sormesa train those kids!" Monero responded.

"Alright, but if it was a wrong decision...is this the way we're going to stop anything undesirable from happening?!"Austime challenged the course of action. And most of the holders realized it too. This wasn't a matter for discussion! It was one for action...
