ponyboys POV.

after going down to get something to eat from the hospital caf me and sodapop made our way back to Emma's hostpital room.

"soda?" I asked.

"yeah?"

"do you think Emma'll be ok?"

the fact that he looked away and didn't respond made me my whole body get goosebumbs.

ask I was about to open the door, Darry walked out. he looked up at us with puffy eyes.

"what happened?" I asked.

"it's all over"

"what?" sodapop asked.

"she's unconscious, she may not wake up."

it's so strange how something so meaningful to you can be taken away from you in an instant. how things can change in the blink of an eye and your whole world is different. how you realize how special people are in your life, and the ones that make your life so much better. how all your patience is focused on waiting for something good to happen because when everything seems to be going wrong, it takes every ounce of courage you have to believe everything will be alright.

everyone deserves a miracle, and right now I could really use one.
