He continues to cry. Not in the loud, gasping-for-breath way, but the silent way. The lonely way, the way that longs for someone to hold them and tell them that everything's going to be okay.
"George," I whisper as I hug him. He lays his head on my shoulder, eyes tightly shut as I attempt to calm him down by playing with his hair.
"You're the only one I have."
I have to force back my own tears as I look at him in silence, waiting for him to speak again.
"Sometimes, I..."
"You what, George?"
"I feel like giving it all up."
