"You're too ignorant to know that love even is!" Mother screams at me.
I flinch and shrink back against George. "N-No I'm not."
Mother snickers. Then, to my surprise, she says something I'd never expected her to say.
"All right, I'll leave you two be. Eleanor, I'll see you at the house."
My jaw drops as she turns and walks away.
This can't be good.
Once she's out of sight, I look up at George. His arms are still wrapped around me, but he seems to be staring off into space.
"Are you okay?"
He is silent.
