"You want to be Claire's friend! That's why; new clothes and all. You're copying her, girl. This style and I-I can't believe it!" She almost yelled at me. Her eyes had disgust for me and I could feel it. It was horrid. The accusations were thrown at my face and they hurt me like knives penetrating my skin and diving into my bones.

"No. No, that's not the reason—" I managed to defend myself before she cut me off.

She wasn't getting it. "Oh yes, it is. It clearly is. You think she'll make you her friend? Huh, she'll ditch you. Like this," Qiana clicked her fingers with a frown on her face. "You're nothing, Julia. Nothing but dark skin." And she left me all alone to my thoughts.
