Heavy Heart

You promised you wouldn't hurt me
I remember that night clearly
It was a little bit windy
As we stood up on the rooftop
Over looking the lit up city

Your arms around me tightly
You whispered in my ear
That you would never leave me
I guess you spoke too soon
Because a week later you were gone

Then it was a month later
You attempted to mend me
Fill in the cracks you left in my heart
You wanted a second chance
And I had been willing to give it to you

We had been in the woods
You took me on an adventure
I said we were just friends
But in the car on the way home
I felt something more

I had asked you later that week
If we were more than friends
You had said you wanted to try again
You had said you wanted to be with me
Even told my friend you planned to ask me out

Then rumor spread around
You were going on a date with a girl
I knew instantly that I needed to stop
To stop dragging myself through mud
Over a boy like you

So I told you I was done
I even yelled at you
But I realized I should have been nicer
So I had apologized for being mean
I meant it too

It's been a while now
Two months since we kissed last
I saw you leaning up against a wall
Casually standing in the hallway
I walked by looking down

I made the mistake of looking up
We made eye contact
Everything came flooding back
When you laughed and smiled
I smiled too directly at you

I kept on walking
But my steps felt heavier
As the distance from you grew further
I keep asking myself
What if I gave you a third chance?
