“You dirty, filthy,..” I paused remembering Night was there. She just sat there staring at Jericho. I eyed her wondering what she was thinking. Night had a thing with people, she could see right through them.
“He’s telling the truth, but this really isn’t him.”
Jericho jerked in his restraints trying to get out. I could see his body shifting and the ropes exploded off of him as he came to the ground, gray colored fur covering his wolf body. He started running towards Night and I quickly pushed her out of the way as Jericho came pounding at me. My body flung backwards towards the cliff, past the cliff. I reached my arms out just grabbing the side of the cliff. I looked down below me to what would have been a long time recovering. I wouldn’t die, but that fall would be something I would never recover from.
I pulled myself up to see Jericho growling at Night. She just stared him down.
“You’re not bad at all. You ran away from your people because you were sad they didn‘t like vampires. All they do is hate. You want to see what hate towards us feels like, but you can‘t hate us… can you?” Jericho growled before sitting down on his haunches.
I stood up and quickly ran over towards Night scooping her up in my arms. I sat down holding her tightly knowing I could’ve just lost her.
“If that ever happens to you again run for your life.” I said squeezing her until she wiggled around telling me I was about to crush her. I let go of the tight hold and looked down into her eyes that looked so much like my own.
“I promise.” She held out her pinky and I wrapped mine around hers.
“Sorry about that.” I looked up to see Jericho, human form Jericho. He looked me dead in the eyes and I knew he truly was. I moved Night off of me as I stood up and approached Jericho.
“I know the feeling to just want to be accepted. You’re forgiven.” Jericho’s gorgeous smile lit back up making me, myself smile.
Night and I walked hand and hand heading back towards our house so that I could get some things and drop her off. I wanted to wait until Night was back in bed to talk to Jericho.
“Jericho how old are you?” Night asked. Oh no, she was going to start playing her question game.
“Seventeen.”
“Sisters or brothers?”
“Two older brothers.” I looked at him, but he was looking away. By the way he sounded so angry when he said the words I could guess that he had a hard life having them.
“Are they at all like you?”
“Maybe that’s enough.” I said looking down at Night hard. She immediately shut up as we continued walking in silence.
“Why is he with us?” Dark asked. I had taken Night’s advice and asked Dark to come with me. He had said yes, and we were now heading towards the other town at a slow pace considering we were deadly tired.
“You can talk to me, I am right here.” Jericho pointed out.
“Right I forgot, we’re traveling with one of our despised enemies.”
I stopped and put my hand against Dark angrily. He stopped, and stood there looking down at me. “Dark I brought you with me because I know you are better than this. If you’re going to whine about it you can go home and shut your trap about where we’re going because if you don’t my parents will find me, and I will be locked under supervision for the rest of my life. Your supervision.” I eyed him and he stared at me hard. He knew how much of a pain that was considering I escaped easily and he would get in trouble for it. I knew that Sapphire was probably getting some words in her ears right now.
“Can you just answer my question?”
“He isn’t like them. He wants to help create a bond between us vampires and werewolves. We have a feeling that there are answers beyond our town.”
“That’s all I needed.” When I turned back around to continue walking I noticed Jericho was in his wolf form walking ahead of us. I quickly ran up to him so that I was walking beside him.
“I’m really sorry about that. He’ll probably stick back there for now, but he can still hear us.” I heard a grunt from behind us and knew it was coming from Dark. Being stuck with these two was going to be fun. A teen werewolf and vampire both fighting, this was not looking up.
Jericho changed again and cleared his voice. “It’s fine. You forgive me. Why is your name Red?”
“First it was because of blood. Vampires like naming there kids vampire names. Like Dark and Night. Then when I was three my mother made me a red riding hood for riding the horses. I didn’t take it off at all for a week straight. My mother couldn’t even get me to take a bath.”
“What’s the story behind this hood then? It looks.. Tattered and the sleeves are cut and sewn up.” I looked at my sleeves where they were bunched up looking like waves of blood.
“This was my grandmother’s. I found it under my mother’s bed. My grandmother could not make clothes at all, so when she made the sleeves the ends came out messy so she sewed them up. The hood is slightly tattered because of it’s age. My grandmother made it when she was nineteen and she would ride around town with it. They would call her ‘Little Red Riding Hood.’ She was eaten by one of you.”
“That was your grandmother? That story is legendary. The parents always told us it before we went to bed saying it was a great victory.”
“Yeah it was, my mother told me the story when I found the cloak. The cloak was the only thing saved.” I paused. “We still run her goodies business.” I added.
“I just can’t believe your Little Red Riding Hood’s granddaughter.”
