The second everyone was inside, things became intense. My mind was no longer wandering to the Arch Angel in the room; no my mind and body were focused. Just like any night on the job. I was sharp, calm, and deadly. Nothing was going to faze me; hell nothing had for a very long time.

“Lock and barricade the doors.” I ordered as I began to move table and chairs. Everyone began to work snapping out of whatever shock they were in. while the men worked I pulled the women aside.

“Ok here,” I gave each a pistol from Michael’s bag and an extra clip. “Don’t do anything stupid, brave or otherwise insane.” I said looking at each making sure Charlie got the message loud and clear; each nodded in turn.

“ Right we need some lights. So if there are any candles find them. We need lighters, matches, and flashlights.” I said they all just stood there, scared. I mentally sighed it was time I ‘motivated’ these humans. I slammed my hands on the counter causing every head to jerk my way.

“Lights. Now.” I said and the women took off looking for lighting. The men went back to the barricades and I started on filling clips and weapons. After filling the tenth clip, I reached in the bag for another. Only this time my hand brushed a familiar object. Being careful not to touch the blade, I discreetly pulled out a knife. This was a heavenly blade, a beautiful piece of craftsmanship, and one that I never had the chance to call my own. Seeing the blade of the Archangels after so long made my heart clench. I missed my brother and my freedom.

“He misses you too, we all do.” Michael whispered from behind me. He gently took the blade from my hands and placed it back.

“We need to focus.” He said before kissing the top of my head and walking away. That gesture was something I had become accustom to during my adolescent years. He would always kiss my head like my brother would, but this time, this time I couldn’t quite shake the feeling that there was so much more to the kiss; more emotion than just brotherly love.

Suddenly the light cut. The women gasped and I went on full alert mode.

“Stay calm.” Percy said as the flash lights were turned on.  all eyes were trained on Michael. But it was Kyle that spoke first.

“We’re locked in here, so what the f*ck we doin’ now?”  If Michael looked my way, I didn’t notice, I was too busy thinking about the roof.

‘The highest fighter always has the advantage.” Rafael’s voice echoed in my mind.  He taught me to fight, and to survive. But apparently he was not the only one to think that, because moments later myself, Percy, Kyle, Bob and Michael were all on the roof in front of the diner’s sign.

I vaguely heard bob, ask Michael what the hell we were doing, I was busy listening for faint, out of place sounds and looking for movement that didn’t quite match.  Then I heard it, a soft melodious chiming, a happy song, one that drew you to it; the Ice Cream Man’s song.  I let out a shot bark of laughter.

“You always could find something to laugh at, especially in the worse possible situations.” Michael said looking out to where the sound was coming.

“I find irony strange and amusing.” I said just as an ice cream truck came into view.  Michael began to instruct everyone on what to do.

“push it all the way down till it clicks.” He said handing me an extra Mac-10.

“Now when it starts, hold on tight otherwise your gonna blow your hand off.” He continued and raised his rifle.

“What the f*ck ya’ll looking at me for?” Percy said. I stifled a laugh and took a deep breath. I blocked out everything, and just as the truck stops I open my eyes. I was ready. I was focused. I was a killer.
