Chapter 4

Nyxi's P.O.V

        Monday morning was like any other school day. I got up, ate breakfast, got teased by my brother, then finally went to school. Everything was normal with one tiny exception--Chase's scent was lingering in the air, which caused me to be distracted where ever I went.

       "Are you okay Nyx? you've been kinda spacey and distracted all day." Anni asked as we walked down the hall to our next class.

       "Yeah, I'm fine. Everything's cool, really." I said reassuringly, but mostly to myself. It's been two days since I've met Chase, two days since I had to put on a fake smile and pretend that nothing's wrong, just two days and it's already killing me inside.

       We walked in silence the rest of the way. That's the good thing about Anni, even though she knows something's wrong, she'll leave it until I'm ready, or until she thinks it's absolutely necessary for her to know.

       After class, we went to find Hannah for lunch.

       "Surprise surprise, she's with Trey." I said sarcastically as I sat down beside her. Anni giggled and took her seat which was in front of me. Trey and Hannah greeted us, and Josh just gave a smirk and a slight nod while Danny gave a small "sup".  Their attention didn't stay with us long because the cheerleaders entered and they started to shamelessly flirt and bellow out wolf whistles. That was something that used to happen to me but I never gave a positive reaction, so it eventually it stopped.

       "What's so great about them anyway?" Hannah asked with obvious disgust. We never really got along with the cheer-bies because they're leader has challenged me on multiple occasions.

       "Don't worry about them babe, they're not important." Trey said lovingly to his mate as he pulled her into a short but loving kiss. Anni cleared her throat,

       "Excuse me, no PDA on campus please." As soon as it was said, I couldn't help but laugh with her. Hannah and Trey tried to glare at us but couldn't hide the smile creeping onto their faces.

       Not too much later, a familiar and very addictive scent entered the cafeteria. Without thinking, I instantly looked towards the entrance. Chase was walking in with a small omega girl about 4.10' in size. She had sandy colored hair and eyes that were almost the colour of silver, and honestly, she was adorable. I let out a low, involuntary growl. Anni noticed and tapped my leg with her foot under the table. When I looked at her, she gave me a confused look but I shook my head and went back to eating ignoring the fact that I would be getting an ear full later.

       When the bell rang signaling to us that it was once again time to go to class, I stood up and bolted out of the cafeteria, trying hard to avoid running into anyone. Once in class, I took my seat and relaxed. Not much longer the other students started filling the room, some of them greeted me, while the lower ranking wolves gave a respectful nod. A few minutes after class started, Chase walked into the room. He talked to the teacher for a few minutes, probably explaining why he was late and that he was new here. When they were done talking, I noticed that Mrs. Sanders was pointing in my direction. That was when I realized that the only empty desk, in the entire classroom, was the one right next to mine. 'Just perfect, the last thing I need in math is a distraction. There's no escaping him now.' I thought to myself. He came over and took his seat, to say things were awkward would be a serious understatement. We both felt the bond, and it seemed that there was a silent agreement to keep quiet. With that in mind, I couldn't help but feel guilty.
