Hi! I'm Alex. My best friends are Jess, Kyle, and Nikki. Nikki and Kyle are a thing and me and Jess, well, we're not a thing. I want to be her boyfriend, but I have no clue what she thinks of me.

"Got any 2's, Jess?" I ask.

"Nope. Go fish." She says.

I pull a card out of the pile and see it's a 5.

"Damn it! Not a 2." I say.

"Haha your loss." Kyle says, kissing Nikki.

"Hey, I'll be right back." I say.

I put my cards down and go over to the teacher's desk.

"Mr. Dran, can I get a bathroom pass?" I ask.

"Yes. Here." He says.

"Thank you." I say.

I walk past Jess and she stops me by pulling on my jacket sleeve.

"Where you going?" She asks, worry in her eyes.

"Bathroom. Duh." I say, showing my pass.

She lets go and I walk out of the classroom and into the hall.

I walk past the lockers and then I hear big loud footsteps, ones I've heard a thousand times before.

"JACOBS!!!" I hear Derek, the school bully, yell.

I try running away, but he stops me by pushing me down.

"What did I say about running?" He asks, pulling me up by my hair.

I shut my eyes to try and think it's not real, but I can smell his horrible breath, which makes me remember it's real.

"ANSWER ME!!!" He yells.

I keep my mouth shut and brace myself for pain.

1! 2! 3! 4!!! Poundings to the gut.

1! 2! 3!!! Poundings to the jaw.

He spits on me and leaves me in the hallway.

Soon enough, all I see is darkness.

A few hours later...

I wake up to hearing beeping noises and seeing a white room.

I see my mom on her phone going through whatever.

"M-Mom?" I ask, weak.

"Oh my god! Alex! You're finally awake! Don't speak because your jaw is severely bruised. Don't worry about that bully he's going to be locked up for a while." She says.

I look beside me and see a notepad and point to it. She hands it to me and I write her a note.

"I'll go get Jess for you." She says after reading the note.

She leaves the room and soon Jess comes walking in and sits next to me.

"Hi. Your mom said you can't speak, right?" She asks.

I shake my head up and down gently.

"Look, Alex. I've liked you for a while now, and I can't get you out of my head. You're the sweetest, most funny and perfect guy. I want to go out with you so bad! When I saw you in the hallway laying there, I figured it was Derek who did that to you. Your mom told me that he's going away for a long time." She says.

I write something on the notepad and hand it to her.

"Yes, I will go out with you!" She says.

I write on the notepad one last time.
