The outside world never felt better.  It feels like I haven’t seen normal people in decades. We’ve been walking for what seems like an hour. And to be completely honest I don’t know what to do, or where to look. The only thing I have to bank on is what Rosa said. ‘If I was ever in a bind, go looking for the witch Mary.’ I sighed inwardly.

We stopped at a local café, and ordered the cheapest things on the menu. Once the waiter took our orders I began.

“Okay so does anyone have any idea how to get to the heart of the war? Cause I have no clue.”

“Neither do I.” They said in unison.

Great!

“Okay then our only option is to find the witch Mary, but I have no idea how-”

“I think I do.” Liza said. Both my head and Ray’s spun to look at her.

“How?” I asked.

“There’s this thing called scrolling. All we need to do is make a circle and call for her.”

“That’s sounds easy enough.” Ray said excited.

“Not really. One of us will have to spill blood for it to work.” We all went silent.

“I’ll do it-” I said.

“No! I’ll do it” Ray said grabbing my hands in his. Ray looked me square in my eyes.

“I won’t let you get hurt.” I gave him a shaky smile.

The waiter came back with our lattes. We drank it quickly and took our leave. It was getting late, so we went to a small motel. We didn’t have enough money, so we used our magic to persuade the owner to let us stay the night.

We all got settled in and went to bed.

Wake up…

Wake up ….

NOW!

I bolted up, and grabbed the sheets closer. What the hell was that?

I looked over to Liza and Rays still bodies.

Come…

My feet were suddenly out of the bed, and moving to the door. I wasn’t in control of my body. I opened my mouth to scream, but nothing came out. I held on to the door trying to slow myself down, but I kept on moving.

I was outside, and moving into the forest. Oh my god!

Once I reached a secluded area deep in the trees, my feet suddenly stopped. It was dead silent, until I heard two giant footsteps.

I opened my mouth and screamed.

“RAY!”

“LIZA!”

“HELP ME-” Something knocked me into a tree. I heard something crack. I opened to my eyes and almost fainted. It was the demon.

How did it find us!

“You think I wouldn’t catch you” It said in a voice that could raise the dead.

I got up and started running for an exit out of the woods. It lured me in here for a reason, to kill me without anyone hearing.

I saw a blinking light in the distance. That must be a store sign.

I was so close, when a felt a hand encircle me and lift me off the ground. He was crushing me. I didn’t even have enough air to scream. The world was fading black. I could faintly hear him laughing. It angered me that I was so useless. If can’t save myself, how do I plan on saving others.

Like a bat out of hell I felt this shot of energy. I saw a white light and just as quickly the demon let me go. I dropped to the floor with a thud. I looked up and his arm was completely gone.

He looked at it, then to me.

“You did this!” he yelled. He started racing toward my crumpled body.

This is it. I closed my eyes.

“Henrietta! Henrietta!” This must be heaven. I opened my eyes expecting an angel, but only saw Micah.

I bolted up, but found that to be a mistake. My head began to pound. Then another pain shot through my arm. It has to be broken. I held on to it.

I tried to stand up but failed horribly.

“Don’t get up.” Micah said looking at me. His eyes were so golden. He gave a silent sigh and turned his head back the demon.

“You’re dead.” And with that he started to shimmer, and in the blink of an eye he changed. He lunged at the demon with inhuman strength. He moved so quick, I couldn’t keep up. He was attacking the demon… and winning.

“Henrietta close your eyes.” he said gently.

“Why-”

“Please, I don’t want you to see this.” I did what he said.

I heard a loud growl then, the sound of a something cracking. Then something dropped to the ground with a loud thud.

I felt like throwing up, and without my permission tears started flowing down my face. I started to part my eyes, knowing what I was about to see.

“Don’t.” he said. I shut them immediately. I heard his footsteps come to stand in front of me.

“Is it all right if I carry you?” he asked. I nodded.

I felt so weak, mentally and physically, being near him felt refreshing.

He lifted me up, and I felt myself drift into darkness.
