OK so some people are confused on this so let me explain.
When Valeria was 10 years old on the second rebel attack (the one I didn't show) the rebels tortured her. Once she passed out from screaming and other stuff they poisoned her. But the poison didn't kill her because she got to the hospital wing on time. So instead she lost her voice. The doctors said they could of fixed her but she was too afraid it might harm her so she didn't do the surgery. After that she grew closer to her gramps, or Macon as you know him, so now they're really close. Still 5 years later she hasn't done the surgery and is scared the rebels might get to her again.
That is basically why she can't talk, thanks for asking me this maddykay820 so I could explain it better.
