Chapter Two-Oh sweet Hell of mine.

Hey guys! Another chapter-I enjoyed writing this one and I really hope you enjoy reading it. First off can I reiterate that you all rock? Your comments are making me blush on a regular basis haha. This is dedicated to MeTheDumbBlonde, because her feedback literally made my night! Thanks to each and every one of you-I literally was not expecting this to get anywhere at all, let alone this early in! So thanks. Also, one thing that came up in reviews was paragraph structure and using a new line for dialogue, which I’m pretty sure I’ve fixed in this. Constructive critiscm is always welcome and thanks to anyone who pointed the above out. So, here we go! Next update in a couple of days I’m guessing, the next one is a big one so may take longer. Warning; the sensitive subjects previously mentioned come into play in Chapter Three, so be warned. Anyway, as usual comments and votes are greatly appreciated. ^.^

‘Bring bring! Bring bring!’

The piercing sound of the bell signalling first lesson was possibly the only thing in the world that could tear me away from my book, as I sat there, losing myself in a world I’d never live in. Even the bullies and idiots sat behind me didn’t matter, as I allowed one of my favourite pastimes to engulf me.

With a sigh I closed my book shut, swinging my satchel over my shoulder as I made my way to the door. It was better, much better, for me to disappear quickly-gave them less time to act. As usual, it didn’t quite work out like that.

“What is she wearing? Vintage might be in, but not when it’s from your Mom’s wardrobe.”

“What the hell is up with those sneakers? I wouldn’t be caught dead in anything close to them. “

“Oh look, it’s the nerd of all nerds, with a book. What a surprise! Harry Potter? Ugh, give me a break!”

I drew the line at that last one, turning to face the culprit--Carly Johnston, blonde, slutty and very, very bitchy. Yeah, I was used to the torrent of whispers that followed me wherever I went, but insulting Harry Potter was really crossing the line.

“What’s wrong with Harry Potter?” I asked indignantly. The adventures of Harry, Ron and Hermione have been with me for as long as I can remember and as stupid as it sounds, I don’t know where I’d be without it.

I swear, the look on Carly’s face was a picture. I mean, I hadn’t exactly said anything really witty or clever, but the fact I’d even opened my mouth and retaliated was practically a miracle. I’d spent my entire schooling life just listening to the whispers that followed me wherever I went, ignoring them completely and acting like I really couldn’t care less. They wanted a reaction, I knew that much, but as I said before; there was no way they’d get away with insulting Harry Potter in front of me.

“What’s wrong with it? I mean just look at you! That book probably has fleas or something! Ugh, have you seen the state of it Chrissy?”

“Eww, that’s like super gross! She’s probably just as infested! Stay away from me, you freak!”

With that, the two girls scattered away, shooting disgusted glances at me as they went.

I glanced down at the book in my hands with an expression of pure disbelief. Were they really that blonde that they thought a book was infested with fleas? I mean, really. It’s not even that old. Fourteen years or so, I’d guess. Really not that long.

Sure, it was slightly battered. The cover was half hanging off, the pages worn from where I’d read it so many times and the whole thing crinkled from where Hope dropped it in the bath. But I loved this book-it had always meant a lot to me and since it was the philosopher’s stone, it had been my very first introduction into the fantasy world I adored. Nothing, nobody was going to change that.
