The party went on for hours and my father was needed everywhere, it was a task to keep reminding him that he had to relax, even for a few minutes.

At the party, the food that the cooks had made was grand - nothing like the lunch I had eaten this afternoon - but I wasn't complaining. My father groaned and whined as I placed the plate in front of him, making the cooks laugh, but they were good enough to give us our space. My father grudgingly ate and after I took a good look at his wound, he was forced to leave because Master Maha had asked for him.

I cleared away my father's plate and, made my way out of the kitchen again to the stable where all the horses were fed and groomed.

I ambled over to my favourite one, the majestic, black stallion. We had been off to a bad start but we were now best friends.. He was stabled at the very end and the smell of horse manure hit my nose hard, but it was the smell that I liked.

The horse looked up when he saw me and I flashed him a smile while moving closer to him, so I could run my hand over his long snout.

"Beautiful, isn't he?" someone said behind me. I jumped in fright and turned around to face the voice.

I had been communicating silently with the horse and hadn't heard anyone approaching.

"I am sorry I didn't mean to startle you," the man said as he came into the light. He was older than me by few years, which was the first thought that crossed my mind when I saw him. He was wearing the type of expensive clothes that I had seen the other guests wear and I wondered if he was the owner of my new best friend.

He smiled at me as he moved towards the stallion and it came eagerly to him. I returned the smile not knowing whether to stay or leave. It wasn't always that a master would take the time to converse with a servant like me.

And with the way the horse was behaving, I knew this man was his owner

I was about to leave when the man said,

"His name is Ra'ad."

The name made me smile, it suited him perfectly. The horse was arrogant, yet sharp and quick; nothing else could describe him as accurately as lightning.

We stood in silence and I realised that this silence wasn't as tense as it usually was for me when I met new people, because it took them a while to understand that I could not speak.

I took the time to read the man before me; he was taller than me – about a foot – and slightly on the thinner side but his shoulders were broad. His hair was black, but due to the lighting, I couldn't exactly make out the colour of his eyes, but they seemed a lighter shade.

"Ayah!"

I heard my brother call and I turned to see him running into the stables, his eyes were wide and he was panting as if he had been running while searching for me. My heart thundered and this time it wasn't because of excitement, I was gripped by fear as my brother opened his mouth to say –

"It's father, I think he is having a heart attack."

A small chapter! I think it was not what you were expecting? I had little or no inspiration for this one, but the next chapter is where the action begins! :D EXCITED!
