Crap! I can't do anything right! After watching her run out and receiving my punishments, I went through my classes numbly. I hated that she was so upset over this. Part of me was saying who cares she shouldn't be so dramatic, but then the other part screams 'have some compassion you a-hole! The girl is all but deaf!'

Unfamiliar waves of guilt and regret washed over me for the hundredth time in the last two nights. This isn't me. Usually I insult someone and walk away, laughing it off. I never cared about their reactions or feelings, it didn't matter who they were: male, female, student, teacher. It never mattered to me. But now, suddenly I feel like the biggest a-hole on the face of the plant and I just want to punch myself repeatedly in the face.

"Honey?" My thoughts were interrupted as my mom walked in the door.

"Mmm?" I grunted at her.

"You need to get ready. We are heading over in about fifteen minuets."

"Ughhh. Why do I gotta go to this stupid dinner thing?" I whined, probably sounding very babyish. Hah, like I cared.

"Ryker. We've already discussed this. It's important we go and support Hank. This deal means a lot to him and his company, it is not only a meal." She stressed the last part, warning me not to protest farther.

"Whatever." I grumbled unhappily.

"Good. Now get dressed. Something nice, Ryker, I mean it."

"But mom I-" I stopped mid sentences because of the look she was giving me. "Alright." I held my hands up in surrender. "Fine, but I'm wearing my hat." I told her matter-of-factly as I turned toward my closet.

"Oh whatever." She mumbled,I smiled as she caved in.

Fifteen minuets later, I was dressed in one of my nice button down shirts my mom had picked up at some lame name brand store. It was a bright blue long sleeve that buttoned up the front. I left the top four unbuttoned so you could clearly see my chest because lets just face it. I'm Ryker Lands. I do not button my shirts the hole way to the top like some nerd. Heck, under normal circumstances I'd never even wear a shirt like this.

I also wore my tan, kaki shorts, no doubt from that same stupid name brand store. I wore a pair of my bright red Supra Hightop Sneakers and man did I love them. They were so legit! Then, to top off my entire outfit, I wore my usual black SnapBack hat. Reluctantly I made my way down stairs and climbed in to my moms waiting car and then Hank began to drive.

As we pulled into a drive way to a pretty big house, about as big as mine, I got a strange feeling that'd I'd been here before. Shaking it off, I climbed from the car and followed my parents to the door, lagging behind slightly. I noticed in the quickly fading light that the front of the house was perfectly landscaped and all the flowers looked well tended. I snorted to myself. Of courseeee. This is freaking stupid, I'm in no mood to go anywhere I'd rather just wallow in my stupidity and guilt. my parents were being greeted in the doorway and there was no room for me to step in at the moment so I stood quietly on the porch. I heard a Spanish accent and my eyes grew wide as I saw who was greeting them. No. No, no, no, no! This is not good, not good at all. What if she recognized me? What if she threw me out? Quickly masking my surprise, I stepped in as Hank moved from the door and mom introduced me as their son. I watched as the woman's eyes grew wide momentarily and I instantly knew she recognized me. However, she quickly masked her shock, very well I might add, and shook my hand.

"Nice to meet you, Ryker." She said in her thick Spanish accent.

"And you too, Mrs. Jacobs." I replied politely, gently shaking her hand. Now would typically be the time when she insisted that I call her by her first name, however, that didn't happen. She looked away and began talking to my mom. My skin began to prickle as I felt someone's gaze on me. Looking up and to the left I saw a long stair case that led upstairs, but the staircase is not what caught my attention, it was who was standing on it. Her eyes were wide and her mouth was open slightly. She gripped the railing in one hand tightly and she had a baby resting on her opposite hip. The baby was gurgling and cooing away happily oblivious to the tense situation. Her mother followed my line of sight and saw Lexington standing on the staircase.
