Don't blame yourself (final)

You felt the needle pierce your very tender skin around the outside of the gaping wound in your stomach. You would've flinched but, your strength was depleting and all you could manage to do was squeeze Noctis' hand a little, which was good for him as it let him know that you were still alive. You stared into his eyes as he stroked your hair and cheek with his other hand.

"N-Noct?" Your speech was slightly slurring and your throat hurt and eyes sting but you wanted to talk to him anyway.

"Yeah sweetheart?" His voice was low and quiet, almost to the point of whispering.

"You have.. You have really beautiful eyes. I want t-to see them every single day fr-from now on 'Kay?"

His facial expression turned more emotional as he listened to you talk. "Got it. However, for that to happen you're gonna have to do something for me first." He paused as a single tear fell from his eye as he looked down at you.

"Survive"

You moved your spare hand up to his cheek and wiped the tear away. "Don't cry. I don't like it when you cry. A-and we all know If you start crying, I'll start crying again and that's gonna make it harder for Iggy t-to do his job."

Noctis nodded and the looked over to Ignis who had just finished stitching up the wound and was cleaning around it with some antiseptic and was about to patch it up. Your door flew open once again and a Nurse ran in with a worried Promto standing in the doorway. Ignis moved out of the way so that she could reach you and she leant down and took your pulse but her face dropped and turned pale as she took her hand away and the looked over at Noctis.

"I'm sorry Prince Noctis but her heartbeat is dangerously low and she probably won't make it through the night."

His entire world came to a screeching halt as she apologised again and said that you two should be left alone to say goodbye. Your tired eyes looked back at his teary ones. "I'm sorry (Y/n)..."

You weakly shook your head at him and pulled on his arm to make him sit on the bed next to you. You smiled up at him and spoke.

"Why are you apologising to me? You haven't done anything wrong. In fact you've done everything right. I never once blamed you for anything. I truly love you Noctis Lucis Caelum and don't you ever forget that. I want you to do one thing for me now, be happy, and live your life with the guys and I want you to have a family and take care of this kingdom for me."

"(Y-y/n)... I- don't talk like that. You're going to do it with me so-"

"Shhh" You put a finger on his lips and some tears left your eyes once again as you wiped his away. You took a deep breath in and let it out. "Light in the Night sky. That's what your name means... Right? You've certainly lived up to that because y-you are my light and now I'm going to be your light. I'll always be here with you, e-even if you can't see me, hear me or touch me I'll always be by your side."

He leant down and rested his forehead on yours before giving you a soft kiss on the lips. "I love you (y/n). I always have and always will." Those were the last words you needed to hear from him and your breathing slowed as your limbs and eyes kids got heavier. Your hand dropped from his face and onto his lap and you closed your eyes, accepting the eternal darkness that came with it.

Noctis jolted awake in a cold sweat and his eyes darted around. He looked up at the person hovering over him, confused. "(Y/n)?"

You let out a small puff of air as to why your boyfriend so confusedly said your name after you finally managed to wake him up. "Of course it is silly. Who else would be in bed with you?"

"What the?" Now he was starting to realise. He sat up and looked at you some more as then looked at his right arm. There was no bandage. "(Y/n) can you show me your stomach? Please?"

You looked at him weirdly because of the strange request but you slowly nodded and did wa hat he asked. You pulled the bottom of your tank top up to reveal the bottom of your belly. He reached out and touched it. "There's nothing there.."

"You had another dream didn't you? That's why you were sweating and holding my arm so tightly."

"It was so real... I could feel everything that went on. The tears, your hair, your skin. Hell I can still feel the blood from your bandages."

You leant over to him and laid him down with you. You rested your head on your pillow and faced away from him but, you grabbed his hand and brought it over your body and placed it on your chest. More specifically your heart. He could feel the steady beating of the muscle through your skin and it calmed him down.

"See? There's nothing to worry about, I'm still here and I will be for ages to come. It was only a dream Noct, I know about your ability but that doesn't mean it's going to happen." You intertwined your fingers with his as you just layer there in each other's warmth. You felt him pull you closer and kiss the back of your head.

"Ok. I love you (y/n), don't forget that."

"I love you too Prince Charmingless."

He smiled into your hair and you both felt warmth and comfort in each other's arms. His hand remained in your heart, forever making sure that you were still there and staying with him for a long time to come.
