-You really are a clumsy-ass. - I scolded Keiji playfully.
He had no fractures though his spleen was hurt and he had a bunch of bruises and scratches on his body. They decided to keep him in the hospital for a few days, to run several more tests to make sure he was one hundred percent alright.
-It seems that I am.- He shifted a bit in his hospital bed and winced –Ouch.-
-You shouldn’t move too much, honey.- His mother said, patting his shoulder –Just rest, okay?- She stoke his hair; he made a mom-stop-embarrassing-me face expression.
-How long will you be here?- I asked.
-I think a week or so.- He sighed.
-Ah, well I spent months in the hospital and I’m fine now, so it won’t kill you.-
-I know it won’t.- He huffed –I just don’t get how I did not see it was the red light for us. I could have sworn it was green.-
-That’s because it was.- Kimura, that simply knocked and came inside, said. We all looked at him, questioning.
-Ah, pardon me. Kimura Ryuuji, police department.- He showed his badge –I’m here to take a statement.-
No shit, I thought.
-What do you mean it was green, officer?- Keiji’s dad asked.
-The traffic light was broken.- Kimura said –It just so happened it stopped working properly when you two were crossing the street. Are you okay, MyAnna?-
-Yes. Is Eihi....I mean det Andou here?- I shook my head, biting my tongue. I could call her Eihi only while we’re alone since no one knew we were friends.
Kimura raised an eyebrow –Yes, she’s in the car.-
I picked my bag up –I have to go to work soon anyways. See you, Keiji-kun. - I smiled and after saying bye to his parents, left the hospital building.
Eihi was standing next to the car, leaning against it, smoking a cigarette. How come that every time I saw her she was either smoking or drinking something?
-Hey.- I said adjusting my backpack.
-Hey.- She said –Is he okay?-
-Yes, luckily he is.-
-Good.- She exhaled some smoke; it danced in the air for about two seconds then it got carried away by the warmish summer breeze –Are you okay?-
-Oh, I’m great. - I huffed –The traffic light broke, I heard.-
-Yes. It seems it had some defect. Or I don’t know.-
-Are you alright?- I raised an eyebrow.
-Remember our exploding-lab episode?-
-Yes.-
-All the people who were working on identifying the DNA samples we found are dead. They were all there, locked from the inside.-
I went pale –Wh-what?-
-Yes.- She turned her cig off; Kimura was also now leaving the hospital building –I swear I will find those two and kill them with my own bare hands.-
-Shall we go? - Kimura eyed me for a second then got into the car.
-Two?-
-Masao and that creature. - She whispered and said –See you, MyAnna. - She got into the car and I watched them drive off.
I looked up at the sky; it was completely blue without a single cloud. The sound was slowly starting to set, colouring the horizon in a pale yellow colour. I took a deep breath; my skin shuddered from a sudden gust of a cold breeze that ruffled my hair very gently. I fixed it and took several steps forward, waiting for the traffic light to go green for me.
