BETHAN'S P.O.V.
Madds and I ran back to the main room.
"Girls, what was that about? Are you being transferred back?" Agent Hill asked, an undertone of excitement in her voice. She had anticipated our departure ever since we had arrived, because we shamelessly did the job better than her.
"We have been promoted, Miss Hill." I grinned smugly.
"To what, exactly?"
You could hear the disappointment in her voice.
"Field Agents." Madds gave her a dirty smile.
"Well Done." Maria said dryly.
"Thank you, Agent Hill."
I went to my desk. There was already a small cardboard box lying on the surface, as there was on Maddi's, for our small amount of stuff.
I was excited. Far too excited.
We'd have codenames.
We'd be like Hawkeye and Black Widow.
Just like we aspired to be.
We'd be looking at action suits tomorrow, and hopefully choosing codenames soon, after we'd had time to sleep. I was ridiculously tired.
Back in Britain, we had had two years training to work in MI5. We'd started age 21. I never expected to be transferred here.
The helicarrier would land at a private SHIELD dock in around half an hour, and we were allowed the rest of the day off after that.
Madds and I had flats adjacent to eachother very near the top of the building, in Seattle. We had shared flats dotted around the country but that was only when we had missions away. These flats were home.
Half an hour to kill. My cardboard box with my little desk items lay on my desk, packed and ready to go. Maddi was nowhere to be seen. I looked around, before deciding to go for a walk around the helicarrier.
I didn't think I had ever been the whole way around the ship, as I was never free to, but now I had time to explore without worrying about being caught.
Walking around the helicarrier was a strange experience. It was empty, but I could see people on the other side of the ship, almost hear them talking. Apart from that, the silence surrounding the step of my boots was nearly deafening. I was truly alone on this part of the ship.
Catching my reflection in a panel of black glass, I looked at the way my blonde hair bounced in the tight ponytail it was in. I pulled the hair tie out and let it swish around my shoulders and frame my blue eyes. I examined my eyes. Bloodshot and tired, framed with mascara but no eyeliner.
It was Madds who wore the eyeliner, yes.
I wanted to sleep.
As soon as the realisation came that I was tired, I couldn't wait to sleep. I hadn't slept for a while. There was always another call to make, or another talk to hold or some more paperwork to fill.
Looking behind me, I swiftly turned into one of the standard bedrooms, used for agents, and fell into the bed dozily. My eyes closed almost immediately.
When I awoke, someone was shaking my shoulder. It felt like only moments had passed since I had closed my eyes.
Turning my head to see who had shaken me awake, I found some blonde hair that wasn't my own in my face. A hand covered my mouth and some male blue eyes met mine.
I lashed out, trying to scream, biting this man's hand. He laughed. I recognized him in that moment, and he released his hand from my mouth when I stopped trying to bite his.
"I am Thor, and why are you in my bed?"
