Dean leapt out of bed, grabbing the first thing out of his closet and putting it on.

He had graduated MacLeod Elementary in June, and was just about to start sixth grade at Rosen Middle School.

He quickly brushed his teeth while weaving his fingers through his tangled hair.

Dean quietly snuck downstairs trying not to wake his dad, who was snoring on the couch. His dad was drinking again last night, making the entire house reek of alcohol.

Dean squeezed his eyes shut as he remembered the night before.

"Where the fuck is my beer? If you touched it Dean, I swear, I'll teach you a lesson that you'll never forget." A voice screamed.

The loud, booming voice echoed down the hall into the shared bedroom of two brothers.

Dean had tucked Sam into the top bunk, and was now curled up into a ball, rocking back and forth in a corner.

"Get your useless ass down here right now, Dean Winchester!"

Dean clasped his hands over his ears, trying to ignore the angry voice of his father. He squeezed his eyes shut as he heard the footsteps come closer and closer to his door.

"Dean! You open this door right this second or you'll regret it" his father screamed, pounding on the wooden door.

Dean leapt up from his position on his floor, quickly unlocking his door. He ran back to the corner as the door was slammed open, hitting the wall.

"Where the hell is it?" His father screamed, knocking Dean over with his open hand.

Dean choked out a sob. "I don't know, I didn't touch it!"

"Bullshit" Dean heard as the slaps, punches, and kicks continued.

Dean could only slightly remember when his father wasn't like this. That was before the accident, before his mother was killed.

Dean quietly slipped out his door and ran to his best friend's house.

His tattered sneakers pounded on the concrete sidewalk, making his backpack bounce on his shoulders.

He finally reached Cas's street, racing to the light blue house at the corner.

Cas went to a camp the entire summer, making Dean more excited to see his friend.

Dean walked up to the door, tapping on the painted wood.

To his surprise, it was not Cas or any of his brothers who had answered.

Instead, it was a young woman who opened the door.

She looked at Dean with confusion.

"Are you lost?" She asked, tying her hair into a ponytail.

Dean shook his head. "No, I was looking for my friend. He lives-or lived here."

"Oh, you mean the Novaks? They left town in late July."

Dean stared at her in shock. He never knew that his friend was leaving, especially without giving him any warning.

He gave a small nod before running off.

Cas hated leaving Dean. His brother, Balthazar, had just gotten accepted into some prestigious school in New York. He didn't understand why he had to leave, but Michael had decided that they needed to be closer together. Michael had finished school, and was working at a business office in New York City.

"Cas, get up. You need to get to school." Lucifer whispered into his younger brother's ear.

Cas groaned as he rolled off his bed, dragging his blankets with him.

Lucifer rolled his eyes as he left Cas's room.

Cas stared at the ceiling fan in his room, his blue eyes reflecting the turning blades.

He trudged over to his closet, grabbing a shirt and a pair of jeans. His eyes went over to the necklace that Dean had given him in fifth grade, which was lying over his bed. He grabbed it off its resting place, and looped it over his head.

After he got dressed and cleaned up, he went downstairs, where Michael was making breakfast.

"Took you long enough" Balthazar said, his mouth full of food.

Gabriel lightly slapped him on the shoulder. "Don't talk with your mouth open." He said, shoving a pancake into his mouth. "It's disgusting."

Balthazar began bickering with Gabriel, and Cas couldn't help but give a small laugh.

He quickly ate a few pancakes before being rushed into the car by Michael.

"So, Middle School huh?" Gabriel said, turning to Cas.

Cas nodded, then turned to look out the window.

"Well, Shurley Academy starts at seventh grade, so you can start next year."

Cas ignored him.

He didn't want to go to some fancy school in New York. All Cas wanted was to see Dean again.

Michael's car pulled up to the drop-off area, and Cas scrambled out of the car.

Dean stepped into the auditorium of Rosen Middle School, sitting down in an aisle seat.

The principal tapped on the microphone. "Welcome to Rosen, and welcome back to our returning students. For those of you who don't know, we split each grade in half. You will have all your classes with those on your half, as it makes it easier to control the class sizes."

The grades were being split up as each home room teacher called out a student.

Dean looked up when a teacher called his name. He grabbed his bag off the floor, and walked to the other students at the front.

They were dismissed after the last sixth grade teacher finished calling out their students, and they left just as seventh grade began.

As Dean shoved his bag into his large, red locker, he couldn't help but think about Cas.

Why would Cas leave without telling him? Was he okay?

Dean stared out the window by his desk, thinking about the dark haired, blue eyed boy.

Cas sat in the corner of his home room, looking at the already forming groups of friends.

Many of them had met in elementary school, but Cas didn't know anyone.

He fidgeted with the necklace that Dean had given him, wishing that his best friend was with him.
