“What do you plan to do with your life, Troy?”
He stopped from taking the steps of the stairs and turned around. He saw his father, standing a few meters from him. He was looking at him seriously as if he had just done something wrong.
Pormal na hinarap niya ang ama. “Dad?” He just came from a band practice and he was tired.
“What the hell have you been doing?” Tanong nito sa matigas na tono.
Nagkasalubong ang mga kilay niya. “Practice?” He answered in confusion.
“Exactly! You are wasting your time doing things that don’t matter.”
Nagpanteng ang tenga niya sa narinig. What he just did was his passion and it does matter.
“Look here, Troy, you are about to get married. You should start preparing for the future.”
Mas lalong nagkasalubong ang mga kilay niya. “What do you mean, Dad?”
“You have to invest so you can provide the needs and wants of the family that you are about to raise. You should do something productive. Hindi iyang inuubos mo ang time mo sa walang kuwentang banda na iyan.”
“I’ve been managing our business for some years now in the US, Daddy. And then you suddenly brought us all here in the Philippines. I have been working my ass off to make your company earn more profits and I just had the time to do what I really wanted to do all my life. Then here you are, telling me this?” Puno nang hinanakit ang boses niya nang sabihin iyon.
His father’s face softened. “Ako na ang bahala sa naiwan nating negosyo sa Amerika. I’ll be back there in a few months. You have to start something here for yourself. Once you get to marry Rein, I don’t think Bernard will allow her to live in the U.S. So you have to stay here.”
Nagkunwari siyang hindi interesado sa sinasabi ng ama. “Can we just talk about this tomorrow, Daddy? I’m tired. I just wana hit the sack.”
Bumalik ang frustration sa mukha ng ama niya. “We have to talk about this now. Palagi kang wala dito sa bahay at gabi na kung umuuwi.”
“Okay, fine...” Naglakad siya papunta sa kanilang malapad na sala at umupo sa sofa. Sumunod sa kanya ang ama. “So what are the plans?” He asked in a bored tone.
“You have to put up a business here in the Philippines. Rein is now the Chairman of KCI so you have to have something under your turf to match her credentials.”
“Well, I’m the CEO of ATM Ventures.” Iyon ang kumpanya ng ama na pinamamahalaan niya sa Amerika.
“Forget about it,” kaagad na sansala ni Nicandro. “We’re talking about you putting a business here in the Philippines. You need that to raise a family. I am already checking the list of companies that you can buy out...”
“I wana buy out Diamond Records,” he interrupted his father.
Sinipat siya ng kanyang ama mula sa suot nitong salamin. “Why Diamond Records? How about something in the BPO Industry. That’s one of the most lucrative investments nowadays.”
“I want Diamond Records, Daddy. Come on, it’s me who will manage this business venture, why don’t you just let me choose? I love music and this is what I wana do from now on. Papayag ako sa gusto ninyong mangyari as long as we’re talking about getting Diamond Records.” He had already made up his mind and he was serious about it.
