Chapter 30

I wake up to a small black dog licking my face. I bolt up scaring the dog off of me. It runs and hides behind the corner of the house, it's little head still peeking around the corner as if I can't see him. "Todo?"

The dog's head jerks back as if in shock? It let's out a small bark as if to say "Yup!" I wonder if I could translate the dog's language with my powers. I imagine the dog speaking english in my mind. Now to test it."You are Todo?"

The dog barks again and I translate that to....bark. Guess I can't understand dogs with my powers. Damn that would've been pretty cool. Although talking to the lion was way cooler.

I'm interrupted from my thoughts as the alarm on my watch starts to beep. I turn it off and let out a yawn as I get up properly.

"Come here Todo." I call over softly to the dog when I finally get to a kneeling position. Todo hesitates at first then runs over to me and jumps on my lap, licking my face. I start to laugh from the ticklish feeling. "Ok Todo. That's enough." The dog stops. How is it that animals almost seem to understand us, but we can never understand them.

I'm petting the dog's head when I realize I should probably head over to where the others are. I should be disappearing anytime now. "Come on Todo. You want to go find Dorothy?" Todo's head pops up, tongue hanging out of his mouth. "Alright let's go then." We start walking along. I can't remember the exact way but lucky for me, my group leaves the messiest tracks for me to follow. Even down the yellow brick road, I see little footsteps made of smeared mud.

I walk along the track back to the spot where I met Dorothy for, I guess the second time. I see the scorch marks of the fireballs the witches had cast. Almost everywhere I step, I hear the soft crunch of hay from the scarecrow. I'm surprised that he is even still standing. That must be magic too.

Now I have to figure out how to get back to the clearing. Hmm. When I used my magic before to get out of the witches castle, I had imagined the route to get out and we'd just traveled at the speed of light to get out. Maybe if I just picture myself behind some of the trees in the clearing where I had vanished from the book, I can teleport there instead of moving at light speed.

I close my eyes to help me visualize better. I imagine the trees that were the brightest of greens. The solid brown trees surrounding the clearing. I imagine myself at a spot where I can hide from view until my other self vanishes. When I imagine myself I have to look back down at myself to see what I am wearing and what I look like in it. The black clothing is covered in mud and a bit wet from the water streams I've made. Imagining the black clothes that were some of the fanciest I've ever worn as just mostly brown with a bit of the original black showing is easier than I thought. In what seems like moments, I am behind one of the trees where I can see the lion just start to roar.

I feel tired again but this time I'm able to stay standing after the power usage. An improvement. Yay! Paying more attention to the battle, I see the lion has just been turned into a bird and flies this way. I also notice that Todo is already back near Dorothy. There before even the lion got there with me on its back. Quickly ducking behind the tree, I see it fly past and land on a branch of the tree next to me. Staring at me with wide eyes, I stand there stunned before slowly bringing my finger to my lips to tell it to not make everyone aware that I am here. That there are two of me.

To my surprise the bird actually nods, looks over to where the battle had been taking place, and flies over. I let out a sigh of relief.

By the time I turn back around to see what is going on, I see myself get sucked into a vortex that would bring me back home. My dad kneels to the ground and I'm surprised to actually see him cry. I want to head over there but I don't want to wreck the book. If that could happen. I need to make it seem like I just got back here to the rest of them, aside from Dorothy, Todo, and the lion.

Within seconds of thinking, I open a vortex above everyone's head. I notice my dad quickly wiping away his tears and glaring at everyone silently threatening them if they ever speak of him crying over me. With a smirk on my face, I teleport myself to it to make it seem like I am just coming out of the portal. This time, when everyone is watching, I fall over.
