Page heard her father locking the door. It was three in the morning and she hadn't been able to sleep a wink throughout the night, she was too excited. She rolled off her bed and pulled out her old black book bag from underneath her bed and put it over her shoulder.
Yawn!
Against her wishes Page slumped down against her bed on the floor. Despite her best efforts, her eyes closed and sleep enveloped her. While she slept, she had a dream. In her dream she was at a camp. It was just announced that not only was she a water bender, but she was the most powerful water bender in the world!
Wait a minute!
Page shot up; completely awake. Panick filled every fiber of her being as she looked at the clock that was still on the floor. It read, eight a.m.! She ran out of her bedroom, down the hall and out of the door without looking back.
Lucky for her, the bus she needed just pulled up to the curb when she ran out of the apartment building. Page ran to the bus and hopped on just as the doors were closing. She paid her fare and took a seat in the middle of the bus. She let out a big sigh of relief and watched as her old life shrunk in the distance as the bus drove off down the street. In four hours she would be at the airport and on her way to a brand new life...
Ding!
Before the bus even stopped completely, Page was already out the door. She ran as fast as she could across the parking lot of the airport. She ran through the doors in time to hear "Flight 4134 for Montana now boarding. Flight 4134 for Montana now boarding."
That's my flight! In a panic she looked around and saw the security check and took off for it. She slapped her bag on the security belt, took off her shoes, and blue jacket and sped walked through the metal detector.
Beep! Beep! Beep!
"I'm sorry ma'am I can't you pass. Can you please extend your arms."
"Hey, let me through!" Page shouted.
The buff and bald security guard huffed, "Miss extend your arms or be arrested." He threatened.
From behind the security guard, a girl with shoulder length brown hair pushed passed. "Excuse me sir, but this is my friends first time flying and we are both really late," She explained politely.
"Extend your arms," The girl whispered to her.
Extremely confused by the turn of events Page obeyed and did what she was told. The security guard ran the mini-metal director over Page's arms, stomach, and legs. It didn't ring until the metal detector passed over her right ankle.
"Lift your pant leg."
Page did as he asked revealing a metal anklet with a ying-yang symbol charm. After seeing the anklet, the guard stepped back, "Proceed."
The girl handed Page her book bag, jacket, and shoes. Once Page was done putting herself back together again, she grabbed the girl's hand.
"Let's go!" she said and they took off to gate twelve.
Page and the girl look for their terminal and spotted it immediately. They approached the terminal, a flight attendant asked for their thickets. They shoved their tickets at her and once they got them back, took off again. This time they ran through the tunnel and onto the plane. Once they were safely on board and looking for their seats, the two began to talk.
"Hi, my name is Crystal." Crystal greeted sticking out her hand
"Page." She said shaking Crystals hand, "Oh hey, this is my seat H-1."
Crystal looked down at her ticket, "Hey, this is my seat H-2! Looks like we're seat buddies."
Page and Crystal took their seats in the two person row and sunk into the blue flight seats grateful to have made it in time. After talking a few moments of random small talk Page and Crystal both looked around to see who else was on the plane. To their surprise the WHOLE plane was filled with teenagers.
"You don't think..." started Crystal
"They're all going to Camp?" Page finished.
"Amazing, You're going to camp too!" exclaimed a voice behind them.
The girls turned to see a fifteen year old boy with rugged brown hair and a goofy yet simple grin. "Mahoney!?!" Crystal exclaimed in surprise. It almost seemed like an unpleasant surprise to Page.
"Crystal!" he exclaimed with widening eyes.
"What are you doing here!?" they both asked in unison.
"Whoa, whoa, whoa, I'm lost. You two know each other?" Page asked.
"Huh? Oh, right. Er- Page this is my old classmate Mahoney. Mahoney, this is my new friend Page." Introduced Crystal with forced politeness. Page could sense there was more to their past then Crystal was letting on.
Mahoney extended his hand completely oblivious to Crystal's mood. Page shook it half enthusiastically. Suddenly a horrible thought hit Page like a runaway train.
"What's wrong?" Mahoney asked.
"...I-I just realized something. I've never been in a plane before," Page squeaked before shrinking into the chair.
Fasten your seat belt, flashed overhead and Page let out another squeak.
"Evening ladies and gentlemen. Flight 4134 to Montana is taking off. Please fasten your seat belts and follow the instructions of the flight attendant. Our estimated flight time is one hour. Thank you and enjoy your flight." Announced the pilot.
Flight attendants began walking around, showing teens how to buckle their seat belts. The scene was total chaos; there were guys of all ages-15 through 18ish- hitting on the flight attendants, some kids were even refusing to sit down. Of course there were people like Page whose hands were digging into the armrests of the chairs, who already had their seat belts on super tight, and were freaking out with high doses of fear.
Mahoney turned around and buckled up as if the flight was no big deal. Immediately he turned and began chatting with a perky blonde in a seat on the other side of the aisle. Page noticed Crystal roll her eyes and buckle up with more force than she meant to. She saw her pause, it was as if she was thinking; why am I getting so worked up that Mahoney is talking to another girl? What do I care?
Page hardly noticed Crystal look out the window probably seeing the airport getting tinier and tinier and transform into monstrous white clouds of death. Page was definitely glad she wasn't given the window seat. That was one view she could live without.
