Chapter 5

It had been a few days since the Jay incident and to be honest I was glad that I hadn’t run into him, this meant I had time to focus on school and our wedding. Darren had suggested we move our wedding to a closer date,

“Let’s get married sooner.” We were in the school library finishing homework assignments,

“No, absolutely not!” Darren’s hurt expression made me rethink my words,

“I didn’t mean it like that! I mean don’t let Jay pressure us, he’s trying to ruin our plans.” Darren sighed as he took in my words, I had let Jay fool me but this time round I wouldn’t let him.

“Alright.” He sighed in agreement, I got up from my side of the table and moved next to him.

“It will all work out, I promise.” Darren smiled and pulled me closer to him, our moment was short lived when one of his friends Jeb- a werewolf came and sat on our table. Jeb had blonde hair, tall and lean physique that screamed ‘party’. And it was true, if you were looking for a good time, you went to one of his parties,

“Aaah, my favourite couple!” I rolled my eyes at his attempt of flattery,

“What do you want, Jebediah?” he winced as I called him by his full name, everybody knew he hated it. He quickly rearranged his feature into an easy smile,

"What makes you think I came here for something?” Darren scoffed at him,

“I’ve known you all my life and every time I see you, you’re asking for something.” Jeb’s smile turned into a full blown grin,

“Now that you mention it, I do need a favour or two!” we both looked expectantly at him to continue speaking, the sooner he spoke, the sooner he’d be gone.

“I’m having a gathering tonight and I need some supplies, I’m a bit on the broke side this month, if you know what I mean?” I looked at Darren curiously wondering if he wanted to go to this party, he just stared back at me with a ‘It’s up to you’ look, I turned back at Jeb; maybe going to a party wouldn’t be such a bad idea.

“What time does this ‘gathering’ start?” I fully knew that this wasn’t going to be a small ‘gathering’ of people; the whole school was most likely to be there.

“Just get there around 7, don’t be late though. The party doesn’t start until the good stuff arrives.” And with a wink Jeb left our tables, Darren growled at his retreating figure. Laughing I pulled him in for a kiss.

School had finished for the day so Darren and I decided to go pick up the supplies for tonight’s party, entering the supermarket we split up, I grabbed a trolley and made my way to the snacks area after grabbing what I needed I was followed Darren’s scent.

I was pulled out of my wedding daydream when I slammed onto someone’s trolley, my apologies were cut off when I saw who it was. Jay. I gave him a look before speeding off to find Darren, I could hear him trailing behind him, and so I picked up my speed. Reaching Darren I crashed into him and almost ricocheted off his hard chest but he steadied me,

“What’s wrong?” his face contorted into a worried grimace as he scanned the supermarket conspicuously, my eyes met Jay’s figure strolling towards us. Without hesitation I hastily kissed Darren, he seemed to forget about the former problem because he kissed me back with just as much enthusiasm. A warm feeling swam through me as the kiss went on for longer, finally breaking away from him I looked behind him to find Jay’s angry figure stomping off.

“What was that for?” I relaxed against his body and he tightened his hold on me,

”Jay.” He stiffened and looked around again with narrowed eyes,

“Where is he? Did he try anything on you?” his voice was laced with pure anger, people started giving us strange looks as they appraised Darren’s angry posture,

“Darren calm down people are looking.” I soothed him,

”Did he touch you?” he spat out angrily through clenched teeth, I shook my head quickly.

Once in the safety of the car I couldn’t help but sag my shoulders in relief, Jay was playing games with all of us and it was worrying me immensely as to how far he’d go to win these games. A thud from Darren’s side made me jump, I realised he’d punched the steering wheel in frustration and anger. Thank God we were still stationery because we would’ve most definitely crashed; I climbed into his lap and hugged him tightly, he relaxed slightly and returned the hug.

“It will be fine, Darren.” His usual warm brown eyes were hostile and cold and scared me a bit,

“How can you say that Carmen, we all know he’s going to win you over and you’ll go running back to him.” I felt his fists ball up against my back as I looked into his angry eyes searching for something that told me he was just insecure there was nothing, he really did believe I was going to leave him.

“Oh, Darren.” I sighed and buried myself in his chest; warm tears seeped out of my eyes and into his t-shirt, I didn’t know how to prove to him that I was never going back to Jay. It hurt me to think that Darren had no hope in us, he tried moving me from his lap but I clamped my legs down, there was no way I was moving until I convinced him I was not leaving him. I grabbed his face and tilted it up,

“I am never leaving you Darren, I love you and I’m getting married to you. I’m not going anywhere.” A few moments passed as I watched the anger in his eyes melted,

“I love you too Carmen.” He pressed his lips to mine, the kiss started off slow and deliberate but turned heated and passion and suddenly the car felt too small to fit the both of us.

“Take me home, please?” I slid off from his lap and into my seat, the whole journey he never let go of my hand. As soon as he switched the car off he was at my door, forgetting about the drinks he picked me up gently and took me into the house. Once in our house we made our way into the bedroom and we both collapsed onto the bed in a heap, his kisses sent tremors of excitement through my body and his hands sent shocks through my body. I pulled away from him and looked at him,

“I love you Darren and don’t forget that.”

The party was in full swing when we arrived, as soon as we entered the doorway Jeb came out of nowhere and swooped out the alcohol from Darren’s hands.

“Glad you could make it, looking stunning Carmen!” he shouted over the loud music, Darren glared at him but Jeb but smiled at him coolly,

“I’ll introduce to a few people of mine.” We followed him weaving through the crowds of dancing people and into the kitchen where he dumped the drinks, there was a group of guys that I recognised from school with their mates standing beside them but the guy who caught my eye was the guy I really didn’t want to see today or ever. Darren made eye contact with Jay and slung a possessive arm around my shoulders as Jay’s eyes swept over my outfit. He had a girl that definitely wasn’t Anna latched onto his arm, he bent down and kissed her deeply whilst keeping eye contact with me.

Once they’d resurfaced he had a coy grin on his face, he was probably expecting me to shout at him or break down in tears but I wasn’t the girl he thought I was before. I kissed Darren with the same intensity he had kissed that girl, if he was going to play games with me then I’d play with him.

Jay’s POV

I stared at Carmen as she kissed her boyfriend, anger and jealousy built inside me. Leaving her behind had been a mistake but I had come to my senses and I wanted her back, it didn’t help that she was getting married to that guy. If I wanted her back I needed to step up my game and show her that I wasn’t the guy I was before, it was only a matter of time before she came to her senses and realised what she was missing.
