*Lucas POV*

The whole school day, I felt sick to my stomach.

As soon as I walked in, I saw everyone, smiling.

When I saw Maya, tears threatened to prick my eyes.

All this time she had been hurting, hurting madly, and none of us saw it.

I barely talked to anyone the whole day.

Things needed to change.

I loved Maya. I didn't love Riley, and I needed to say it.

I wanted Maya happy, I cared for her so much. I just never realized it until then.

After school, I walked out with Riley, but watched Maya walk home carefully.

For some reason, I didn't want her to be alone.

I didn't want more scars on her beautiful body.

The walk was mostly silent to Riley's, as I could see she was in deep thought.

I wasnt sure why though.

As we walked up the hallway, she suddenly blurted.

"Oh no! What about my Dad?" She asked worriedly.

I wasn't planning on being there for long.

"Don't worry, it'll just be a short visit. Besides, I've been here before." I shrugged.

She nodded, then opened the door to the beautiful apartment.

Mr. Matthews imediatley walked out.

"You!" He pointed at me in a silly voice.

It made me crack up a bit.

But on the inside, I felt guilty. I was just about to break his daughters heart. But I was also scared. I honestly thought I would be thrown out the window.

"Dad, relax. Lucas is just here for a short visit." Riley explained, rolling her eyes.

He looked at me with a investigation look, then sighed.

"Fine, but quick. And absaloutley NO funny business." He said seriously.

"Don't worry, sir." I said reassuringly, as we walked up to Riley's room.

He glared at me as we walked, but I didnt mind much.

As we sat down on the famous bay window, she could sense something was going on.

"So, Lucas, what is it?" She asked curiously.

"Riley, look. I-i wanted to talk about..."

I paused. I was scared for her feelings, but I knew I had to do what was right.

"Yes?" She urged.

"About...us."

A smile broke across her face.

"Oh, Lucas! What about us?" She asked dreamily.

I sighed. I didn't want to break her smile.

"Riley, this is really, really hard. But I have to do what's right."

Her smile suddenly broke.

"Y-yes...?" She asked, looking down.

She knew.

"I- I think we should.. Break up..." I said shakily.

She looked up at me, her eyes watery.

"W-why, Lucas? What's wrong between us!" She asked shakily.

"Nothing! Its not you, its me. Really. I, I just...I'm in love with somebody...else." I said, looking away slightly.

Her head suddenly perked up as she wiped her eyes.

"I-its her, isn't it? Its Maya...?" She asked her voice rough.

I sighed deeply.

"Riley, im so sorry to do this too you. Your so important too me, just, not like that...but yes, it is Maya..." I said sadly.

She huffed.

"Why did it have to be her...?" She asked, her head in her hands.

"Please, Riley, don't let this affect you guys friendship. She's innocent, its just my feelings. I really hope this doesn't effect ours, either..." I said hopefully.

She sighed.

"Well, things are going to change. But for right now, I'd like you to leave. Oh, and you might want to take the window."

I nodded, stepping off the cousins.

"I truly am sorry, Riley. Your an amazing girl, just, not the one for me. Are we good?" I asked solemnly.

She sighed once again.

"Ya, we are good..." She said.

I smiled, then escaped out the window.

*Riley's POV*

As soon as he left, I collapse onto my bed., crying into my pillow.

"Why, why does it have to be Maya!" I whisper-screamed.

Things were going to change, but I wished they didn't have to.
