The sound of a car door closing snaps me back to reality and I jump up from my desk, chair clattering to the ground. I'm not expecting company and I stand here, unmoving, as I try to sense who has made a surprise visit. It only takes a few moments for me to realize what's out there as I sense the unmistakable energy of one of my worst fears, demons.

I sprint from my room, reaching the upper floor railing just as the front door swings open and someone steps through. Without hesitation I grasp the rail with both hands and vault over it, releasing my grip to bask in the rush of adrenaline as I free fall for a second, and as my body lines up with the wall below I kick off. I fly through the air and land gracefully in a crouch, throwing my hair from my face and looking up at the intruder barely a foot away.

He's wearing a torn up green shirt beneath a matching vest and tan cargo pants with silver dog tags gleaming against his neck, a thick metal bracelet clasped to his wrist. His eyes are the color of emeralds, shining in surprise, and his hair is a light auburn, spiked and wind blown. He's not much taller than me but his muscles are lean and defined leaving no room for me to doubt his strength. I mentally prepare myself, too sapped from maintaining the barriers shielding my home and myself to rely on anything but raw strength, he won't take me willingly.

I register this all in the blink of an eye before throwing a leg out in front of me, kicking him square in the chest and hurling him back through the open doorway. I'm on my feet racing after him within seconds but, as expected, he's already back up.

"Oi! The fuck is.."

I don't give him the chance to finish, I'm not here to talk, as I throw swing after swing at him in hopes of keeping him off balance. He dodges masterfully, the few hits that do connect he doesn't even seem to feel, but I keep up a violent assault as I force him back. He stops one of my strikes, grabbing my fist with his hand, and I use the momentum to swing my body around to execute a well aimed kick to the side of his head that leaves him momentarily reeling. He backs away from me quickly, his hands in front of him as if to temper me, but I refuse to back down as I stalk after him carefully.

"The brute can't even subdue one woman? You're losing your touch." My attention snaps to the voice belonging to a coppery-pink haired demon accompanied by three others watching from the sidelines, clearly entertained. I curse myself for not sensing them sooner and in my moment of distraction the demon behind me grabs my arm, twisting it behind my back, and quickly fumbles for control of the other. I thrash violently, trying to loosen his grip, as he growls back.

"She's like a wild fucking animal. You wanna give it a shot, pretty boy?"

I lift my foot and stomp down brutally on his own, earning me a satisfying yelp, but his grip is as unyielding as iron. I grit my teeth, disgusted, as I resort to my back up plan, turning my head just enough to trap his emerald eyes with my own. Though not nearly as powerful as a full fledged demons, I hope to catch him off-guard as I loose my enthrallment, grinding back against him sensually. My ploy works as he releases me in surprise and I take this opening to put some distance between us.

"If that's how she plans on fighting maybe I will." The other demon teases, his tone like a purr, and I snarl back at him, a feral noise that effectively silences him.

"Jesus woman, you've got some fire." My opponent remarks, sounding impressed, as he advances on me once more.

Forced to defend myself he pushes me back, giving me no room to retaliate, until I find myself pressed against the side of the house. I try to duck aside but he grabs one wrist and then the other, pressing them roughly against the wall above my head. I kick out at him but he presses himself against me, uncomfortably close, effectively pinning me to the wall. My eyes glow as I try to resort to my dirty tactic once again and his shimmer golden in response.
