* Hey guys! I was so happy when a good friend/favorite author of mine agreed to do an interview! Her name is ! She is such a good woman, and I aspire to be like her one day. Her books are absolutely amazing, and I encourage you all to go check them out! So without further or do here is the interview between me and Jen Yarrington!
. . . . .
Me- So Jen here is a question that I asked many authors that I interview, when did you realize that you wanted to become a writer? What inspired you to give it a go?
Jen- I started writing poetry when I was a teenager - lovesick, sappy, and sometimes dark poetry. I've always kept a journal, but I didn't write much else until I was in my 30's. I started a blog, mainly humorous entries. Then, when my husband had a stroke, I started a blog about his therapy and recovery. the time since his stroke (in Jan 2011) has been the most challenging and painful time in my life. But I think that was when I developed a passion for writing. It was a good way to escape some of what was going on in my family from time to time. But I was also able to dig deep into my experiences, from all of my life, and create characters that readers can relate to. Now, I'm hoping to sell my books to support my family. :D
. . . . .
Me- Would you rather be a Vegetarian or a Vegan? Why did you choose what you chose?
Jen- Neither! If I absolutely had to, a vegetarian, but not a vegan. I like cheese and yogurt too much!
. . . . .
Me- Since you have been on Wattpad for some time you are bound to have made some good writer friends. Do you encourage your kids to make friends online? How do you feel about internet safety these days? And what can parents do to make sure their children stay safe online while still allowing them some freedom?
Jen- I'm probably a lot more lax about internet guidelines than most parents. My kids have stumbled across some bad stuff online, and we talk about it and why they should stay away from it, etc. My kids and I talk about everything, so that helps. They know they can tell me anything and I will help them work through it, no matter what it is. They also know not to share any personal information on public forums or with strangers. I think it's VERY important to make sure you know what sites your kids are on, who they're talking to, and not to let them use the internet for indefinite amounts of time in a place like their bedrooms. Some of that suggestion is for safety, and some of that is just to encourage kids to get offline and exercise their own creativity.
. . . . .
Me- What is your favorite food that you couldn't go a day without eating? And what food do you dislike so much to where you would rather starve?
Jen- Nachos are my favorite food in the world - I don't eat them every day, but I would if I could. And I would absolutely die without coffee every day!
. . . . .
Me- So Jen, what are your other hobbies besides writing and reading books on Wattpad?
Jen- There are hobbies other than Wattpad? lol Writing is my hobby and my career. If I'm not actively writing, I like to do ground work for stories, like researching ways to build better plots, characters, etc. Aside from writing, I've done some card making, but I haven't done it in a while. And...is sleep a hobby?
. . . . .
Me- When was the first time you were called an inspiration, and how did you feel when you were called that? and why did you feel that way?
Jen- I don't remember the first time I was called an inspiration. But I've heard it a lot since my husband's stroke in 2011. He was left permanently disabled, we had young kids and I was working full time in addition to trying to take care of him. It's been a heavy burden, but we're all doing our best to bear it. Many people have come to me and told me they're praying for us and that I'm an inspiration to them, that I'm strong and courageous, heroic even. I don't feel that way, to be honest, but I choose to see it as something I hadn't noticed about myself that others see, so it encourages me to be strong and courageous and heroic.
