Ellie's POV

"Mom I don't want to go! Why do I even have to meet him?!" I throw my arms up in frustration.

"Elaine Skye... don't use that tone with me. We have had this dinner arranged for over a month! What changed your mind now?" My mom says sternly, placing her hands on her hips.

"He isn't my mate Mom. I don't want to start a relationship with someone who isn't my mate! Thats gross and weird!" I frown and shiver in disgust.

"Honey... I know that it's difficult to understand but at least just try to tolerate him and his family? Your father would appreciate it a lot seeing as they are finally beginning to finalize the alliance." My mom huffs, smoothing out her red gown.

"Why cant we just cancel the dinner? Im sure they will understand!" I try to plead but deep down I know its no use.

"Stop arguing with me." She says sternly before turning around and grabbing the box on my desk. "He left you this gift. So open it and get ready because they will arrive in an hour!" She sets it on my bed and kisses my cheek before leaving my room.

I huff and look at the box. Letting my curiosity get the best of me, I lift the large white lid.

My eyes widen as my hands trail over the beautiful midnight blue gown. I lift it up and stare at the dress in awe. Suddenly a thought pops into my mind and a frown etches onto my face.

If this douche canoe thinks he can just buy his way into my pack then he has another thing coming.

"Honey you almost ready?" My dads voice says through my door.

"Uhhh yeah?" I say more as a question as I grab the dress again.

I turn towards the door as my dad's head peaks in. He opens the door fully and crosses his arms over his toned chest as he takes in my current attire.

"Your not even dressed," He says trying to hide his grin.

"Technically I am dressed," I smirk.

He shakes his head and laughs before coming towards me and sitting on my bed.

"Stop being a smart-ass," He laughs. I laugh as well but sigh as I hold the dress in my hands.

"You only have yourself to blame for me being a smart-ass," I reply softly and sit next to him.

"It's a very lovely dress," He whispers and kisses the side of my head.

"It's a bribe to try and get on my good side," I frown.

"Ellie... I'm sorry but..." He whispers. I sniffle as tears brim my eyes.

"Do I have to?" I ask quietly and lean my head against his shoulder.

"No, you dont have to," He sighs and rubs my arm soothingly, "But it would give us a better chance of having an alliance with them."

I nod and sniffle before standing up.

"I'll be down in a few minutes," I say softly. Dad gives me a weary glance before nodding and closing the door behind him.

I strip off my clothes and step into the dress. My fingers slowly trail the long skirt as I stare at my reflection in the mirror.

This isn't me. My grayish blues that once held happiness and freedom a minute ago, now dull and bored.

I sigh and walk over to my vanity. Brushing out my long waves, I live my hair down but pin back the front section. I apply my normal makeup routine but add a smokey eye-shadow to make my eyes pop.
