James Potter looked up at the scorching sun as he felt sweat droplets trickling down the sides of his face. He wiped them away with his hand, afterwards using the latter to fan his heated face.

The swimming pool was bathed in the unbearable sunlight, and though he rested under the shade of an umbrella, it barely made any difference.

Letting out an exhausted huff - partly because of the searing heat and partly because of actual exhaustion after hours of doing nothing but guarding the pool - James reached into his back pocket for his mobile phone.

A message notification caught his eye as soon as he unlocked his phone. He clicked on it.

Moony: hey mate, how's it going?

James smiled at the screen and began typing.

Prongs: boring as hell man, i bet padfoot is having way more fun over at the kids' pool

Moony: leave it to sirius to find a way to have fun even when supervising children

Prongs: this has been the worst month ever, moony. when i signed up for this job i thought i'd stare at pretty girls in bikini all day but july is ending and all i see everyday are old people or married couples

Prongs: plus i barely get to move my arse from this chair all day

Prongs: and the heat's unbearable

Prongs: i feel like a boiled egg

Moony: it is your fault you had these unrealistically high expectations of the job as a lifeguard, james

Moony: anyway, i've got some exciting news

Prongs: spill the beans

Moony: there's this girl who arrived yesterday evening. lily's her name. i talked to her a bit and she seems quite lovely.

Prongs: did you get her number?

Moony: of course not!!

Prongs: dude what's wrong with you? finally see a pretty girl and you don't get her number?

Moony: may i remind you that i'm currently seeing someone?

Prongs: WELL I'M NOT
