Summary: In which Dan and Phil visit the San Francisco zoo.

They had never really meant to stop in San Francisco.  It wasn't one of the tour spots or anything, but when they had told their friends that they were traveling all over america so many had said that they needed to stop at San Francisco.  They said that it had been one of their favourite cities.  And since Dan and Phil had a spare day, they decided that spending some time there couldn't hurt.

They only thing was Phil made Dan promise that they wouldn't just do boring touristy things.  They had done enough of that already.  So with the help of the internet, Dan decided on a few places that were a little more original than the Golden Gate Bridge (though he was still going to try to convince Phil to go see that later).

"Where are we going?" Phil had been bothering Dan the whole way.  They were taking an uber to the place, but somehow Dan had managed to tell the driver where they were going without Phil hearing.

"I keep telling you, it's a surprise," Dan smiled.  He had always loved surprises (so long as he was the one surprising, not the one being surprised).

"Well we're going to be there soon enough," Phil tried to reason, "There's really no point to keeping it from me."

"It's fun though," Dan couldn't resist saying.

"Oh, I really want to hit you right now," Phil pretended to pout, though really he was smiling.

The car dropped them off on a street lined with Eucalyptus trees and Phil couldn't quite figure it out.

"This is nothing," He complained, as they walked down the street after Dan checked his directions.  "There's just lots of houses and fog."

"I think that's pretty much most of San Francisco," Dan laughed.  "I think you could figure it out now if you tried."

"Now your being even more mean," Phil bumped into Dan purposefully, their shoulder colliding, "Just tell me."

"If you weren't so busy complaining then you might have already see it," Dan stopped walked.  They were there.

"A zoo!" Phil finally read the signs.  "We get to go to a zoo!"

"It's not a very exciting zoo or anything," Dan immediately tried to lower expectations, "But yeah, it's pretty good and we haven't been to one in a while."

"It's good there's not many people around," Phil said after checking.

"What, why-?" Dan began before Phil was pressing their lips together quickly.  "Oh," He mumbled after Phil stepped back.

"Sorry," Phil was grinning, "It's just that you're the best boyfriend ever so I had to."

"Shut up," Dan couldn't stop from blushing, as he began walking towards the entrance to hide his face.

"This is going to be great," Phil rushed along next to him, unaffected by Dan being flustered due to compliments.  "We have to see everything."

They didn't end up seeing everything (that was to be expected), but as soon as they got inside the front entrance, even Dan couldn't stop smiling.

First off there were the giraffes and zebras.  They got to walk through a little tunnel to get to that part and there were cute little kids trying make their voices echo.  Phil wanted to try too so he made some eagle noises.  Dan pretended to not know him for a couple minutes after that.

"Do you think they like all the fog?" Phil wondered aloud when they were on their way to the monkeys.

"I don't know," Dan had been thinking about it too, "I reckon living at a zoo no matter the weather would be better than living in the dangerous wild.  But that might just be because I'm lazy."

"Hey, we've been doing a lot of stuff lately.  That doesn't seem very lazy to me," Phil reminded.

"True," Dan agreed.  They had been doing a lot of stuff, and no matter how much fun it was, he was glad to have a bit of a break today.

"I like the fog," Phil stated, back on the topic of the weather.  "It makes everything feel a bit more cozy - wait that's not quite right - I'm not sure.  But I like it."

"I like it too," Dan agreed.  "Feels a bit more like our rainy home."

They got to the monkeys after that and the monkeys were where they ended up staying for a long time.  There were some little ones that particularly caught their attention.

There seemed to be a whole family of them.  There was a little baby who was bothering the other monkeys, but he would always dive back to hide behind his mom.  The only problem was that his mom climbed higher and he didn't notice.  So the teenage looking monkey began pushing him.

"Mother, come back," Phil yelled at the monkey, "Your child needs you."

"They're fine," Dan laughed, even though he really wanted the mum to come back too.

"I know," Phil didn't take his eyes away for even a second.  "But look, he still needs his mum."

They probably sat there watching for over twenty minutes; until the baby was back safe with his mum and Phil let Dan drag him away.  It had been nice to forget about everything that they had been worrying about and instead concentrate on the safety of a baby monkey.

By then it was getting close to lunch time and they decided that they should probably leave the zoo.  There were plenty of other things in San Francisco to see and they could get a much better lunch outside the zoo.

"Thanks for picking this," Phil said as the walked back through the lemurs area on the way out.  "I forgot how much I love the little things like this."

"Yeah, me too," Dan took his hand for a brief second, squeezing it once.  "I'm enjoying this whole adventure really."

"Me too," Phil smiled, "It's crazy actually, that we get to do all this."

"It is," Dan agreed.  There was a brief silence there as they both thought - until Dan interrupted it again.  "I'll race you to the tiger statue."  He challenged, he took off running.

"Wait," Phil started off a second later, running after Dan, "That's not fair. It's not even a tiger, it's a leopard.  Dan!"
