Chapter Fourteen

It was Christmas Eve, and Zoe had graciously invited my family over for dinner. Nick wanted to get to know the person I'm always "rambling on and on about", as he put it, referring to Brett. Julia was happy to have someone to gossip about my relationship with Brett.

I stood in front of my closet now, wondering what to wear. After going through everything, I finally put together an outfit.

I first slipped on the white lace tights, followed by the dark red dress. I tugged on a white cardigan and some tan ankle boots to finish off the clothes. Then I started on my makeup. I used a bit of foundation for my skin, then moved to my eyes. I dusted them with natural eyeshadow, lined them, and coated my lashes with mascara. Coloring my lips with a burgundy lipstick and tying my hair into a low side bun, I was finished and quite proud of myself.

I grabbed the presents and headed down the stairs. Everyone else was ready, so we piled into the car and headed over to the Westons'. The ride was full of horrible singing to Christmas songs and laughing at each other's horrible singing to Christmas songs. It seemed nobody in my family could sing Jingle Bells in tune.

We finally pulled into the driveway. I was the first one to the door, so I rang the bell. Zoe opened the door as Archer, Nick, and Julia walked up behind me. "Hello, Raina, dear! You must be Archer, Julia, and Nick. I'm Zoe. Come on in!" she greeted.

We all entered the house and I saw that Julia and Zoe were already talking as if they were best friends.

"Hi, Raina," someone said. I turned to see that it was Cameron.

"Hey, Cam," I replied. "I didn't know you would be here."

Before I could sit down next to him, Zoe came up to me. "I'm so sorry, Raina. Could you go up and see what's taking Brett so long?"

"No problem," I told her. I went up the stairs with my gift and knocked on Brett's door. I opened it when I heard a muffled 'come in'.

Brett was standing in front of a mirror, struggling to put on a black tie. He wore black slacks and a red button-down shirt with the sleeves rolled to the elbows. On his feet were black dress shoes, and his wrist adorned a nice black and silver watch.

"Need some help there?" I teased.

"Raina! Yes, please. I'm struggling!" he begged with an adorable look of frustration.

I chuckled and walked over to him. Since he was so tall, I had to go up on my tiptoes to reach him. I quickly but neatly wove it together and stepped back. "There."

"Thank you! Oh, here. Merry Christmas," he said lightly as he handed me a small, neatly wrapped box.

"Thanks, let me get mine." I grabbed his present from beside the door and carried it to him.

"Wow, it's big," he commented. I nodded absentmindedly while I ripping off the wrapping paper on my present.

"You got me a mint Instax camera!" I squealed. "I love it!"

"You got me a black acoustic guitar?" he asked in disbelief

"You got me a black acoustic guitar?" he asked in disbelief. "That's amazing!"

I threw my arms around his torso, and after coming out of the initial shock, he returned the hug

I threw my arms around his torso, and after coming out of the initial shock, he returned the hug. "Merry Christmas," he whispered.

"Cough, cough," someone said, sounding amused. "Ahem, ahem. Cough, cough."

We both quickly jumped away from each other to see who it was. It was just Cameron, smirking. "Zoe wanted me to see what was taking so long. Didn't want her getting the wrong idea. Sorry if I interrupted something."

I rolled my eyes and handed him a package. "Merry Christmas to you, too," I said sarcastically.

He pulled something out of his pocket and handed it to me. I opened it, and it was a pair of white rose earrings. "Cameron, these are adorable! Thank you!"

"I love this phone case too! Merry Christmas!"

I threw my arms around him too. Brett stiffened beside me, which was strange, but I brushed it off.

"Let's go back down now. I want to give Sky a present," I said. We all went back down just as a little blur of red came hurtling out of the kitchen.

"RAINA!" she screamed and hugged my legs. "I missed you!"

"Aw, I missed you too! You look very pretty," I said, referring to her sparkly red dress, and her black shoes and headband. "But I think it's missing something."

"What?" she asked, her doe eyes wide with curiosity.

I handed her the small box. "Merry Christmas."

She wasted no time and immediately ripped off the paper. She opened the box and pulled out the personalized necklace. "It's my name! Thank you!" she said. "Look Brett! Raina got me a necklace!" she screamed as she ran to where everyone was sitting in the living room.

"She did," he agreed, looking at it. I gave him a soft smile and nodded.

"Yeah, look! It says my name!" Skylar squealed. Brett looked at the silver pendant and smiled.

"It does," he agreed again.

"Raina! Oh, it's beautiful! You shouldn't have," Zoe commented when she saw the chain.

"It was nothing, really. I immediately thought of her when I saw it," I admitted.

"Well, thank you again. Okay, everyone! Dinner's ready," Zoe announced. "Let's eat!"

Hmm, spending Chrismas with Brett? Hehe. Thank you so much for reading this chapter. It was actually pretty fun to write for me. A heads up, though: the next couple chapters will definitely not be this happy. But we'll get through it as a Wattpad family :D

Too much? Okay.

I want to include more of Skylar, but I'm not exactly sure where to put her. It's kind of a bummer because she's too cute. Any ideas for me? Comment below IF IT'S OKAY WITH YOU IF I USE YOUR IDEA. I will dedicate the chapter to you, though, and give you all credit for it. So there's no need to call your lawyer...

Ooh, this chapter is pretty long! A little over 1,000 words! I'm excited ;P

Thank you again, as always it's appreciated if/when you vote, share, follow me, and comment. Until next time, mwah!
