Rogue's P.O.V

-

"Alright class, now find what f(n)=1.5+3(n-1) if n=5."

How simple.

I quickly scrawled the equation down in notebook, and got to work solving the equation. I tucked back a loose strand of hair as I finished the question, and set down my pencil in accomplishment.

I leaned back slightly in my chair, a feeling of pride welling in my chest. It felt good to get the answer right, even if it was as expected of me. Everyone believed that students who got good grades didn't even care, that we were so used to it that we simply pushed it aside.

But for me, every right answer or good test grade reminds me of how far I've come since then.

-

I remember the day after Sting left.

From the moment my feet hit the floor, suddenly everything was different.

It wasn't the kind of difference that sticks out at you like a sore thumb, but the kind that gives you an eerie feeling, the looming fear that something is wrong.

It haunted me the entire day, like a dark cloud above my head.

I couldn't focus on anything.

Normally my day was full of smiles and laughter.

I didn't even smile once that day.

Or that entire month.

It seemed like everything I'd worked so hard for, had slipped right through my fingertips. My grades. My family.

I truly lost my light.

I was only a shadow, consumed by the darkness.

Even to this day, I can't be sure exactly how long it lasted. After about 2 months, it started to feel like such a routine I didn't care to remember who I was before.

Who I could have been.

It felt like it lasted for years. But then suddenly, light peaked its way through the dark clouds.

I met Kagura.

And she was the only one I had.

I was so desperate.

She made me feel again.

I could smile.

I could laugh.

I could live.

And so, I began building myself back up. It wasn't easy, trying to make up for everything I'd lost.

But I began to study again.

And slowly, things came back up.

0% turned to 40%

60%

80%

100%

Every A reminded me that you can always build yourself back up, no matter what.

You can overcome anything.

You can become the person of your future, not of your past.

-

I was quickly snapped out of my thoughts by a small piece of paper sliding onto my desk.

I turned to the source and found myself glaring at a certain blonde, who simply grinned and mouthed 'read it!'

I rolled my eyes, turning back to my desk to unfold the note. It was a bit crumpled, and written with an energetic blue gel pen. The handwriting was extremely hard to read, but I was able to decipher:

Lol what were u thinking about, you were totally in your own world!! I called your name like 7 times, and you didn't even reply! Rude!!! >:((

I sent a playful glare to Sting, who pretended not to notice me and stared up at the board.

Like I'd believe he's actually paying attention.

But as I watched him, I couldn't help
but notice all the little details, like the way his ocean blue eyes shine like nothing else, or his stunning smile, or how soft his lips look...

Suddenly, I realized that I'd been staring for too long

Way too long

My face reddened as I quickly turned back to my desk and shoved my face into my notebook, too embarrassed to make eye contact with Sting.

Why had I thought all those things?
