This little girl was in an accident of some sort and is now in a coma, her mother comes by everyday and reads a story from a book that has many different stories in it. She hears the stories and while in the coma she goes on adventures, the adventures from the stories but she doesn't know they are coming from them or that she is in a coma. If she dies in the adventures she will die in real life, basically it's her mind giving her body a way to live, to get out of the coma.
