Arthur has either a twin or younger sister who he is very protective of, she very kind and everyday goes to the (the only word I can think of right now) peasants and buys stuff off them so they have money they can use, and every time Arthur follows her to make sure she isn't harmed, she knows of this as she has to be escorted whenever she isn't in the castle. I kinda see this going to where Arthur is king and all these noblemen keep asking for her hand in marriage but Arthur wants her close by because she's his only family so Merlin (because he and her are friends) suggests that he marry her because she'd still be close, he'd still be Arthur's servant he doesn't care about that, and Arthur knows he can trust him with her, they don't even have to do anything romantic they can just be friends who marry each other so the other isn't forced to leave.
