Avenging Us (Steve + reader) JGWI part 2

Standing Alone

   There's absolutely no response from the body on the bed, and you're a bundle of nerves.

   "I need help, Nat!" You murmur pacing the floor.

   If Clint and the reserves can hold off a squadron of Hydra agents, there could be a chance.

   "Come on, Y/N! You'll be fine! Steve and the others will be here soon"

   You aren't trained in anything, at all, and you're so scared your knees are clapping for you.

   There is a can of mace you bought to put in your purse for emergencies and remembering this sends you on a frantic search. When your fingers close around the can the absurdity of the whole thing hits you.

   I'm gonna go against a trained spy with a can of mace. Yep, I'm gonna die!

   There's running feet in the hall and you throw yourself against the locked door listening.

   "The team in the lobby couldn't hold them" a nurse tells her coworkers "The soldiers split up and took different routes to the fifth floor."

   "That's the children's ward!" Another voice replies "Where are those super heroes when you need them?"

   "My training did nothing to prepare for this" someone mutters.

   No kidding!

   "Getting close to the drop point, Cap!" Tony calls.

   Steve crosses the plane to the side door and throws it open.

   "He's really gonna jump?" She Hulk laughs.

   Bucky straps on his favorite gun and sneers at the green woman "You must not be from around here."

   He and Sam cluster behind Steve.

   "Stop, doing that Sam" Wanda scolds "You're making me nervous."

   "Thanks for the vote of confidence, sweetheart" Sam rolls his shoulders and puts on his wings.

   She Hulk sighs and motions for Beast to follow.

   "Ready?" Steve scoops up Wanda, who nods solemnly.

   "You guys are nuts." Tony says in a singsong voice, as Steve throws himself from the plane.

   "Don't take too long, Stark!" Bucky dives after him.

   "Geronimo!" Sam yells, his voice fading into the wind.

   "Everyone has to have the last word" Tony mutters.

    She Hulk's fingers close around the edge of the door with a crunching sound.

   "Hey!" Tony yelps "Respect the plane!"
