Sound of Sirens

  
   The blond woman's expression melts into a involuntary smirk, but she doesn't step toward you.

   This must be Yelena.

   "Khoroshaya popytka (nice try)" She levels her weapon at you.

   "Don't shoot" You sputter, holding up your hands.

   The woman had come in alone, a strategically bad decision, just as bad as your decision to face her, but this one seemed cocky.

   "What do you want, Yelena?" You attempt to stall her.

   An expression you could only describe as unhinged, envelopes the woman's face, and she fumbles for words.

   "I want... revenge" she makes an angry expression, but it doesn't quite reach her eyes.

Good.. good. Keep her distracted.

   "Why kill me?"

  "You're... in my way." Yelena slurs and her body sags a little.

   What is going on with her?

  "Put the gun down." Because of her awkward compliance, you find more confidence in your voice.

   Slowly her arms drop, and the weapon falls from her hands with a clunk.

   The gun goes off and you jump as it skitters across the floor.

   Yelena seems to awake from a daze and dives just as you reach for the gun.

   "You're toying with my mind, ved'ma (witch)!" She hisses, tackling you to the ground and wrenching the gun from your fingers "Bol'she ne nado! (No more)"

   "Are you nuts??" You gasp as the wind is knocked out of you, and throw up your arms to defend yourself "Get off of me!"

   Yelena flies backward into the wall which crumbles in over her body.

   The initial shock prevents you from running over check on her.

   What is going on here?

   You glance at Natasha who doesn't move despite the commotion on this side of the room

   "I could use a hand, Nat" you gasp for breath, aware how on edge you are.

   "You're on your own, Y/N" Natasha's voice croaks.

   You spin to look at your friend, just as Yelena dives at you again.

   "Stop doing that!" You meet her force with your own and gasp at the burst of pain in your shins and your forearms.

   Her hands latch onto your neck, and her nails dig into the skin and you squirm, pulling at her fingers.

   "Y/N, tell her to stop" Natasha rasps, pushing herself up.

   "What the-" you cough, harshly "Ugh! Get off of me!"

   The blond spy struggles to hold on and her shoes squeak across the linoleum.

   Something snaps and in an adrenaline fueled haze you go "cray cray".

   To an outsider watching, there is little difference from the way you go after Yelena and an episode of Animal Fight Club.

   You roar out your frustrations on the other girl, punching and hitting until someone tackles you to the ground.

   "Y/N!" Its Steve!

   He's panting, heavily "Man, you are hard to pin down!"

   You squirm, wildly.

    He winces at the sound of your voice but he only grips you tighter "It's okay, Y/N. It's over!"

   "Let me goooooo!" Steve shoots into the air his direction only inhibited by the ceiling beams.

   He lands with a thump on the tile floor, beside you.

   Steve!

  There's an adrenaline rush like you've ever felt pulsing through your veins.

Your eyes dart over your friends who have just walked through the door and the woman you have just beat the pulp out off. There's also a muscular green woman who looks vaguely familiar and a blue furred something you could only describe as a cross between a bear and a gorilla.

The raspiness of your breath sounds like sand paper on a pane of glass. Your heart is a deafening throb in your ears.

   It's Clint who gets your attention and draws you back to reality.

   "Y/N, look at me!" His hand closes around your arm and he snaps his fingers in front of your face "They have Yelena!"

   You look over at Steve who is picking himself off the floor "Oh, Steve! I'm so sorry! I don't know what happened to me!"

   He envelopes you in his strong arms and murmurs into your hair "I'm alright, Y/N. It's okay."

   "It's about time you guys got here" Natasha says, breaking the silence.

   "Nat!" Clint is the first to her side "Why didn't you say anything?"

   Natasha laughs, her voice still hoarse "I think I just did"

   Bucky glances at you and Steve "What" He motions to the ceiling and the wall and the floor you're sitting on "happened here?"

   Debris from the ceiling tiles surround you and a human shape is broken into the opposite wall. Half the room looks like a demolition site. One of the nurses glances in from the fresh hole in the wall.

   "This destruction is brought to you by Y/N!"

   "I did all this?" You clutch Steve in a panic "Wha- How?"

   "Calm down, sweetheart" the green woman smirks "You get used to it in this business."

   "What does that mean?" You demand "What happened to me?"

  Natasha pushes herself into an upright position, wincing at her wounds "It means you just developed powers, Y/N."
