Lucy

His lips were inches from mine when the cheesiest tone sparked. His phone rang.

I could hear him swear softly before digging into his pocket and taking out his phone. He sighed, "Hello?"

I scooted over back to my side of the car. I sat at the very edge with my bottom lip clenched between my teeth. Oh we almost kissed. Key word Lucy almost.

His conversation with whoever was on the other line progressed as I reflected my thoughts in a curled up ball against the car door. "I don't know. Bro what is so important that you had to call me at-" he distanced the phone from his ear illuminating the screen, to check the time, then bringing it back to his ear, "almost 11 pm?"

A small chuckle came from Austin who I guess was listening to the phone call. "Probably Monday. But I'm not sure. Look ill ask Austin and text you tomorrow Chris. Bye."

Chris, oh from the team? He was the one who mostly hung out with Austin when Jake was gone. "So what did Chris want. And what do you need to ask me," Austin chirped at the press of the end call button.

Jake huffed readjusting in his seat, "He wanted to know when next practice was." I laughed, Chris was one of the more "organized" of the team, he needed to have specific dates circled on his calendar days before the event took place. Schedules were his "thing."

"Oh yeah you can let him know that Monday we'll practice again." Jake nodded in the darkness.

Silence overtook the car. The soft buzz of the engine was the only thing you could make out. I looked out the window for any familiar land marks to indicate we were close to home. None were clicking, hopefully we were at the very least half an hour away.

I scooted forward in my seat and layed my neck on the shoulder of the passenger seat infront of me. Ethan turned his head to the left to see me. His eyes met mine and revealed a grin. "Hey sunshine," he softly whispered. I yawned and twinkled my lashes as a response. "Tired?" I smiled and nodded. "Well we're almost there." I nodded once again and returned back to my seat and sitting up.

After about another twenty minutes of silence we were finally pulling up to our driveway. Another yawn escaped from me and I pulled open the car door. My eye lids pulled against each other longing to close and rest. We made our way inside our house.

As we walked inside Austin threw his car keys on the counter yawing, "You could crash here Jake it's late to be walking." He nodded in response and scratched his head. I crossed my arms against my chest as I fell asleep, standing in the middle of the living room. Ethan yawned digging into his pocket, for his keys.

My drowsy brain became protective, "Your shouldn't drive home. Your too tired, it's dangerous." Jake eyes shot open, "Lucy what are you suggesting." I ignored his comment and continued,"Crash here tonight Ethan. There's a couch in my room." Jake immediately retorted, "There's a couch down here." I threw my head back in frustration, "Can't you just let me be a good friend. Besides I've slept down here it's creepy and uncomfortable." He rolled his eyes and turned to Austin who just shrugged.

I looked back at Ethan who was yawning again, "Thanks. I'd love too." I shot a thumbs up too tired to even speak. I turned and began walking towards the stairs. Ethan followed as I took his hand leading him behind me.

We went down the hall and got to my room. After he walked in I took a step behind him and shut the door. He took a seat on the couch near my bed. I walked to my closet and pulled out pijamas and a towel. I staggered towards my bathroom, which is "in" or "connected" to my room. "Where are you going?" I knuckled and placed my hand on the side of the doorway turning back, "Im showering. No way I'm sleeping knowing there's still sand somewhere in my scalp." He laughed, "Okay." I winked unknowingly, "Don't wait up."
