The girl dropped the gun and we watched her fall to the ground. Billy still held the gun in his hand and quickly pointed into the rest of the team. I saw the girl's gun on the floor just in front of her bloody head. I quickly grabbed it before it got soaked in blood running from a bullet wound.
"Gross" said Rowan looking down at her.
Team 6 acted quickly and got their weapons out. I counted 6 of them including Ray and the girl on the floor. Where was the other one? I turned around and saw that Keera's face had gone white. I gave a loud scream as I saw she had a spear stuck through her body. She was dead. The spear retreated into her belly and Keera dropped to the floor revealing a little boy. He grabbed the blood smeared spear out of her and looked at us and smiled. "Oops, sorry" he said with so much sarcasm. I drew my bow and arrow back without any discussion and let go. It was a direct hit. He fell to the floor with that smug expression still painted across his disgusting bloody face. I turned back to Ricky and Ray. Ray laughed and all the teams' weapons went on Ricky who lowered his sword again. Kyle stood in front of me and whispered extremely quietly, I could barely hear him "When Ricky screams and points you run" He turned back round and we waited. Ricky suddenly pointed at the sky and screamed. All team 6 looked and we legged it.
"OI" shouted a girl from team 6 "They're buggering off"
We shot round a corner and another, we were away but we didn't stop until we had left a fair bit of distance between ourselves and them. But what if they had run after us? I don't think they wanted a fight but I might be wrong. Once we knew we were a safe distance away we stopped and listened. There was nothing, they hadn't run after us after all. I struggled to catch my breath and I found myself wheezing. "Are you ok Grace?" said Kyle, he grabbed me and held me close to him. I buried my head in his jacket and accidently slipped out a few tears. Katie was in tears and so was Rhea, but Naomi just stood there. She was as tough as stone this girl, she had shown no emotion to a single death, but I knew deep down the emotion was somewhere inside of her. I put my arms around Kyle and I hung on to him for a while until I was ready to let go.
"Everyone calm down" said Billy still holding his gun. That reminded me of the girl's gun I had picked up. I pulled it out of my hoodie pocket and showed it to everyone.
"Now we have both the guns" said Ricky.
We all got out some food and drink from our packs and ate before carrying on. I was famished and it was nice to eat and drink something.
The sun was setting so it would be dark soon. Maybe we should hunt tonight. Maybe we shouldn't. After Keera's death I decided against it and so did the rest, except Ricky of course. We all got into a hedge and covered it so we were hidden. No one spoke about Keera. She was dead and we had to put it behind us. Billy looked at his watch and told us who died today.
"Leah, Faye, Lester, Alison, Daisy the girl I shot" Billy stopped for a second.
"Carry on Billy" Said Katie putting her arm around him.
"A boy called Jamal who was in team 10, a girl called Rosie who was in team 5, a boy called Tony who was also in team 5 and Keera. Team 3" We all stopped and thought about Keera, Rest in peace Keera.
"R.I.P Keera" said Naomi who had hardly spoken all day. I hugged her and she cried a little into my jumper. She did have a bit of emotion in her after all.
"That's why it's best not to get attached to people" said Ricky. Rowan glanced at me and raised his eyebrows. I knew exactly what he meant and I shook my head in denial. Ricky was right, it was best not to get too friendly with people because they could die any second right in front of you. Rhea was now in tears again after seeing Naomi. Kyle crawled over and hugged her; he wiped the tears of her cheeks. She kissed him and put her arms around his neck. What was she doing? He was mine. But he wasn't mine at all. I felt a rush of anger and jealousy flood my head. I was starring at them hugging and now Rowan grabbed my hand and pulled me off down the hedge.
"What? It doesn't mean anything Grace" He said quietly into my ear as Kyle and Rhea broke off each other.
"What? Was it that obvious" I said trying to calm down.
"Yeah, you were starring at them whilst going bright red"
I touched my cheeks, they were hot. I didn't want to go back to the rest of the group, they all probably saw me and how I went red with jealousy.
"Are you ok?" Rowan asked.
"Yeah" I wasn't, I wanted to rip Rhea's head off and stamp on it a couple of times before chucking it into an oven. Arran, who saw we were discussing, crawled over to see what the big fuss was about.
"What's the matter?" He said, joining us. Rowan looked at me and so did Arran. I couldn't tell him. He would make it all worse, and anyways it wasn't that big a deal.
"Nothing" I said.
"Is this about you and Kyle?" said Arran, liked he'd known a long time ago. I turned to Rowan and he apologised. Who else had he told? This was none of their business.
"I ain't told anyone else, just Arran"
Arran grinned ridiculously at me "Don't worry I'll help you". What did that mean? What was he going to do? We retreated back to the group to find that no one else had seen me go bright red. We all sat in a huddle in the Hedge as it went dark. Arran turned me around to face him then whispered something in my ear "I gonna make Kyle Jealous".
"What?" But before I got an answer he kissed me right on the lips in front of everyone. I immediately thought to break away and slap him hard but I realised he was doing this for me.
"Oooo" Said Ricky. A few people wolf whistled and made kissing noises. When we broke I smiled and looked at Kyle. He was silent and expressionless. Did it work?
"That was nice for ya" Said Arran hugging me "Did it work?" He whispered making sure Kyle didn't hear.
"I don't know" I said "Thanks"
"It's ok, what are mates for eh?"
"Night" Shouted Ricky
"Shhh" said Rhea.
We all went quiet and lay down. I was so tired I couldn't wait to close my eyes and sleep. How did Kyle feel now?
It was morning and I woke drenched. It had rained in the night and everything was wet. I sat up. No one was there, where had they gone?
"It's alright" said a voice. I span round and saw Arran. "They've just gone to find a few more weapons and food"
"But they won't know their way back" The maze looked exactly the same and there would be no way they would remember where we were. Arran pulled me out of the bush and pointed to the top of the hedge. It was a bird. Then I saw there was a spear sticking out of it, the end of the spear was stuck into the top of the hedge.
"How did you get up there?"
"It was Billy, I didn't see cuz I was still asleep. I said I would stay with you"
"So everyone else has gone?" I was annoyed that they didn't wake me and take me with them.
"Yeah"
"Why didn't you wake me?"
"Dunno"
Arran jolted his head backwards and pulled out a gun, he shoved me into the bushes and listened. I could hear it, it was a low growl. Arran stood there waiting. I pulled his jacket so that he to was against the hedge. I held my hands to my ears as a loud screech travelled through us. Arran jumped out before I could grab him and pulled the trigger on the gun.
