Part 1

Ron, Harry, Hermione and I sat on the train waiting for it to leave. It was completely silent and I was sat next to the window with Ron sat opposite me, Harry next to him and Hermione next to me. As the train began to move I looked out the window watching the blurs of trees and the owls flying back home pass by. I wished I didn't have to go back to the muggle world for christmas, it would be so much more exciting. Both Harry and Hermione knew how that felt, but they were lucky enough to spend christmas with the Weasleys. I wasn't close enough with Ron for him to ask me, but I had hoped Fred or George would ask, but they didn't. "y/n" Ron said rather loudly, snapping me out of my daydream. I looked to him and raised an eyebrow, as did Harry and Hermione. "Well, I was wondering..." He stuttered and then asked, "What are you doing over christmas break?"

"Oh... erm... not a lot, what about you?" I asked, clearly disappointed but I hadn't the energy to hide it.

"Yeah, not a lot" He replied, he looked to Harry and he rolled his eyes. i turned my attention back to the window.

"I'm home!" I shouted pulling my luggage into the front door.

"Oo just in time for dinner!" My grandma said happily, helping me through the door. "You're Dad's cooked... expect you're mother to moan" She added, as I lifted my suitcase out the way and followed her into the dining room. "Look who's back!"

"Hello, how was it?" My mum hugged me.

"It was good, Ron and I made it onto the Quidditch team this year, I'm a chaser-" I was about to explain but my mum cut me off.

"No I meant the train home"

I huffed, "The two trains home, mum and it was fine" I walked back out the room and decided to take my luggage upstairs now. My mum wasn't a witch but my Dad was a wizard and so was my grandma. I could hear the conversation downstairs between my Dad, Mum and Grandma. They have the same thing every year. 'You should show more interest' and 'She's a witch you have to accept that' were the two most common sentences I hear when I'm home and indeed I heard them again before my Grandma came upstairs.

"Knock Knock" She said at my bedroom door before walking in, "You're mother means well, she just-"

"Doesn't like magic, yes I know, but it's part of my life, I'm not going to get a dead end job in the muggle world like Dad has, just because mum doesn't like it" I said, sitting on the bed.

"And we will support you all the way..." Grandma trailed off and then looked around, "Where's Josie?"

"She died" I sighed, Josie was my cat when I first went to Hogwarts, she died a couple days after we arrived this year. She was very old though.

"I'm sorry" Grandma said, sitting next to me and pulled me into a hug and stroked my hair, "What about that boy? Ron?"

"What about him?"

"I thought you said in your letter that you thought he would ask you to stay with him and his family for Christmas?"

"Yeah but it didn't happen" I sighed.

Dinner was the same as every year, my Dad cooked, Mum didn't like it and Grandma used some magic to stop Mum moaning at Dad. The perfect Christmas Eve. We were sitting in the living room watching TV, there wasn't anything on, only the usual christmas specials. "So tell me a bit more about Quidditch" Mum said all of a sudden, turning her whole body to me.
