Thank you for reading!
The howling moon, previously "the alphas sweet mate"

I decided to add a few key points to help you further understand the story. Ashley, the main character is a type one diabetic, as am I. I wrote this story because I spent so much time on Wattpad looking for a story about a diabetic girl falling for a werewolf, which I didn't find.

First:

In type 1 diabetes, the body does not produce insulin. Insulin is a hormone that is needed to convert sugar, starches and other food into energy needed for daily life.

Two:

Diabetics can lead healthy and normal lives, as long as they maintain a blood sugar that is within a normal range.

Three:

Checking the blood sugar is when you prick your finger and test the blood to see the amount of glucose in your blood system. The glucose needs to be converted into energy using Insulin.
Insulin is administered through injection in the body, some diabetics use the injection from either a syringe or a flex pen. I used to use the flex pen to give myself insulin before each meal.

Now I use the insulin pump, the same as the character in this story uses. The insulin pump is a small device that is hooked into the body and continuously pumps insulin throughout the day and before meals. (Picture of the same insulin pump I use, on the side for you to see :) It's the same color as mine too .)

Four:

A diabetics blood levels should range from 80-120 mg/dl (this does not go for all diabetics, it's an average estimate. Anything below that number is considered low, and anything above is considered slightly or extremely high.

Five:

Low/High blood sugars.
A low blood sugar means that the person has too much insulin in their system and not enough carbs to go with the amount of insulin. Low blood sugars could be very dangerous and could lead to serious situations. Lows must be treated with fast acting sugar such as soda or candy. (Not chocolate, it's a slow acting carb that doesn't help get rid of the symptoms.) Low symptoms include: cold sweats, Shakiness, confusion, slurred speech, unconsciousness or in extreme but rare situations, even death is a possibility.

High blood sugars: High blood sugars are the cause of too little insulin mixed with too many carbs. High blood sugars aren't too dangerous at the moment, unless numbers range really high, however constant low blood sugars can lead to serious complications later on in Life. High blood sugars can be treated with more insulin, exercise, or drinking plenty of water. Symptoms include: fatigue, lethargic breath (wine or fruity smelling breath) feeling really hot, sleepiness, an unquenchable thirst, excessive urinating, and dry skin.

And six:

Diabetics are just as normal as anyone else, and yes, we can eat that. Do not ask a diabetic whether or not they can eat what's on their plate because yes, we can eat anything, we just have to physically give ourselves insulin for our carbs. We are just like eyeryone else and could eat anything we want, the only difference is, is that a non-diabetics body makes its own insulin, whereas a type one diabetics body does not and we have to physically give ourselves insulin through a pen.

Don't tell me your grandma is diabetic and got her leg amputated because that's something I don't want to hear. Also, your grandma is most likely a type two diabetic and got it for different reasons. Unless she was diagnosed at a young age, with type one.

Diabetics count their carbs, not total sugar, we give insulin based on the number of carbs our meals contains.

I hope this helped a little, I know it's kind of confusingbut If you have a certain question on diabetes, feel free to inbox and ask.

ENJOY THE BOOK!

Much love,
NATALIE!!
