"Mail, Mr. Calzone!" Johnny the mail man, called through the front door. There was a crash and a rustle of keys, but by the time a hungover Christopher Calzone came to the door Johnny was gone and three letters were left in his place.

Christopher grumbled about his back as he leant down to pick them up, but he stopped suddenly when he read the name addressed in the first letter.

PEREGRINE DAR CALZONE
28, INGRAMS STR.
ST. CLOUD
MINNESOTA

He ripped it open without a thought. It was a letter from an Alicia Dar Daden.

It read:

Dearest son, Peregrine.
I do wish I could explain to you why I had to leave, but it is far too dangerous at the moment. I figure, though, in time you will know anyway; Either from your connections to William Braxton, or a miss Byrne. I am sorry for my abrupt departure from yours and Robin's live, but I just want you to know Perry, I would have stayed should I have been able to. On the subject of Mr. Braxton, I should tell you to keep him close and don't let him go. You will need all the friends you can get when the inevitable happens.

I can only tell you so much, and I hope you understand: As you know, I'm in Italy. What you weren't aware of is that I've been here all along. I am staying with an old family friend; Gianni Rossi. He is in good contact with the Braxtons, and many other Descendants. I'm sure you know all about them by now. How could you not?
In my position as a disowned Descendant, I am at extreme risk. My family, (you) and I will most likely be the little pieces that are sacrificed in this game of Chess. I couldn't afford for them to find us, so I had to leave. I don't know if you'll ever understand, or if you'll ever forgive me. I just couldn't raise a child and risk them ending up like that horrible woman Julia Blanché.

To Robin, (I know she's going read this letter with you anyway, so why pretend she isn't) How are you, sweetie? I hope you're doing well in school. Life in Italy is okay, but nothing compared to spending just ten minutes with my children. I love you both so much. I've been hearing quite a lot about Oliver Roscoe whenever your name comes up in conversation with Gianni. He is much in the know with relationships in that school. You'd swear he has ears in the walls. I kid, of course. I'll be honest with you Robin; Oliver Roscoe is a detrimental piece in how the rest of us are going to live the rest of our lives. If he breaks away from the family's strict and archaic views, he will be disowned and the Roscoe family will crumble without any heir. If he carries out his presumed role in this revolution of some sorts, he will be unstoppable and not even I, a Dar Daden, will be able to save us. Don't get mixed up, my sweet child, with Oliver Roscoe, at all costs. Or it may cost you everything you hold dear to your heart. I do hope I am not too late in warning you.

I love you both so much, try to stay out of trouble,
Your caring mother, Alicia Dar Daden.
