I kept my arms around him the whole way to the CDC. The wind blew my hair in all directions behind me as my head lay still on Daryl's shoulder. I smiled as memories filled my head of my Ex and the speed we were going at filled me with adrenaline.
Daryl slowed down as we came across a huge building, we had made it to the CDC. The group stopped behind us as they all got out their vehicles. As we walked to the door the smell of rotten walkers hit my nose, making me gag and cover it with my hand. As we walked up the door was closed and locked and got the unwanted attention from walkers as they walked towards us. I pulled on Daryl's arm to let him know we where surrounded as he pushed me behind him and started shooting the walkers done one by one along with Shane
"Open the door!" Rick shouted as he began banging on the metal, he noticed a camera at the top and started shouting at that as more and more walkers came. "We have children!" He shouted again, waving his arms to get attention.
"It moved, the camera moved" he said as he started banging on the doors harder
"You imagined it" Shane told him as he kept killing the walkers as I still hid behind Daryl
"We know you're there" rick shouted one last time as the doors opened into a huge lit up room. As we walked in we looked around, expecting someone to be around but we saw no one
"Woah" a voice said from the top of the stairs. Everyone turned around to the sound and pointed their guns to the unknown man who also had a gun pointed at us. "Anybody infected?!" He shouted to our group.
"One of our group did. He didn't make it" he told him as I wondered why he felt the need to tell him that.
The man stepped closer as Daryl once again pulled me behind him. "Why are you here and what do you want?" The man asked us as his gun still pointed at us
"A chance" rick answered as he lowered his gun
"That's asking a lot these days" he said back to us as rick looked away
"I know" rick answered. The room went silent as he looked over the members of our group.
"You all submit to a blood test. That's the price to abmision" he told us as rick agreed with him
"We can do that" rick nodded
He walked up closer to us, bringing his gun down "if you have anything to bring in you do it now. One those doors close they don't open" he said pointing to the open door leading out into the infected city
Rick, Shane and Daryl ran out to the cars to bring in bags of our clothes and items and brought them in. The man shut the door behind him which locked, unable to open it again.
"Seel the main entrance" he said to the computer as it turned red, bringing down metal frames to sucure the doors shut
"Rick Grimes" he introduced himself and stuck out his hand
"Dr. Edwen Jenner" the man said, shaking ricks hand
We followed Dr. Jenner into an elevator that we brealy all fit in. I was squashed into Daryl who had a shotgun in his hand and his crossbow "doctors always going around packing heat like that?" Daryl asked him as he turned around to answer him
"There were plenty left laying around I familiarise myself" he started "but you all look harmless enough" he said scanning the group again "exept you, I'll have to keep my eye on you" he finished, looking at Carl as he got a cheeky smile back.
The elevator stopped as he all got out and walked down a narrow corridor, following Dr. Jenner the whole way. "Are we underground?" Carol asked as he turned around
"Are you claustrophobic?" He asked her, getting a glance from me. I was very claustrophobic and It only had things worse knowing we where underground
"A little" she answered as Dr. Jenner turned back around
"Try not to think about it" he told her as I shyly grabbed Daryl's hand as we walked down the corridors. He looked at me and I just smiled at him and looked forward again. He didn't move his hand away from mine but he put a stronger grip, reassuring me I was safe.
We walked into a room that was surrounded I'm darkness "Vi, turn on the lights in the big room" he said as the lights lit up the room. It was completely white with only the metal railings being the only other colour. "Welcome to zone 5" he told us as we all followed him into the room. I still held onto Daryl's hand but also got a stare from Andrea
"Where is everybody?" Rick asked as there was no one else in the building. "The other doctors, the staff."
"I'm it" Edwin said as he stood the the middle of the room, surrounded with medical supplies. "It's just me here."
"What about the person you were speaking with?" Lori asked from the back of the room. "VI?"
"Say hello to our guests" he said out to the room, this voice echoed. "Tell them... Welcome"
"Hello guests. Welcome " a robotic woman's voice bombed around the room. Everyone looked around in shock
"I'm all that's left. I'm sorry" he said, taking us into a separate room. My hand left Daryl's as I walked up to the front where Rick was. There were needles and blood samples along the shelves of the room as I stopped walking.
Needles brought back memories of my father. He would inject himself with whatever he bought and got high in seconds. He drunk at the same time and become abusive, and thought it was fun to try it on me. He cornered me and laughed in my face, showing his crooked teeth as the used needle played in his hands before sticking it into my arm. It would hurt for hours, and I would always have marks after. I couldn't take shots at school as I would always throw up thinking about it.
He sat us down as Rick went first, rolling his sleave as Edwin inserted the needle into his arm. I couldn't look as I turned around, I faced Daryl ad he walked upto me and hugged me. He went up next as he showed no reaction. Everyone but me and Andrea had done it and Daryl was trying to make it better as I sat in the chair
"Not a big fan of needles" Jenner laughed as he prepared
"You have no idea" I mumbled as I moved my arm away before he injected it in me, earning a slight laugh from him
"You'll be fine. It'll be over in a second" he told me. I didn't move my hand back as Daryl kneeled in front of me and took both my hands
"Look at me Aura, everything's fine. Just look at me and not him." Daryl said as I felt a slight sting in my arm. I scrunched up my nose and closed my eyes waiting for the beating I always got
