The next day, I get a call from the mortuary. They had finished their autopsy report, and all I had to do was visit and pick it up. I call Con about it, but I find out that he's busy but he'll come as soon as he finishes whatever he's doing. I bet he's flapping off to GTA and 2k16 videos, like usual. I hop into my conveniently placed car in the garage and drive over to the hospital near my office.
I arrive at the pearly white hospital. Its windows shone as bright as what would've been Devan's future, and the walls were newly painted. I walk in, smelling the aroma of sanitizer and other types of disinfectants. I walk up to front desk, explaining that I was the investigator waiting for the autopsy report. She directs me to go in the elevator, and go to the lowest floor.
After listening to some horrible elevator music on the long ride down, I was finally in the basement. I glance around, searching for anyone who might know the man who has the report. No one was around, so I decided to walk around. The halls were dark, ominous, as if anything could pop out at any moment. Once you walk out of the elevator, you arrive in a room with two hallways. The room was very crusty, as if no one had been down here for years. There was one table that has been flipped over, and a chair lies on its side. One hallway is on the far left wall, and the other on the far right wall. Each were as dark as my soul, and I was tempted to just turn around and leave. I couldn't do that, of course, so I take out my phone, turn on the flashlight, and go to the left hallway.
I slowly approach the left hallway. Passing four doors, I finally reach one that reads "Morgue - Beware!" I hesitate a second before I enter, wishing Con were here with me for comfort. As I walk through the door, I see a flash of white. A figure appears in front of me within a second of entering.
"My, my, what do we have here," the figure speaks, spitting a little with every word he speaks.
"Oh... uh, I'm here for the autopsy results on one Devan Srsly," I explain, a bit frightened by his character.
"Ah, yes of course. Please, right this way." I follow the man to the other side of the unusually dark, smelly room. I see a row of body bags, scattered neatly on beds that fills the room. He leads me over to the refrigerators, and opens one. Inside was...
Yogurt?
"Oh, sorry wrong type of refrigerator." He laughs awkwardly. The man then leads me to the actual refrigerator, where Devan's body was held. His once tan skin had paled to a sickly white, and he was... naked. I can't stop my eyes from straying downwards. Noticing this, the mortician covers his intimate parts with a white blanket, which makes me snap out of my trance.
"So," he says uncomfortably after seeing me stare at Devan, "I'll just shimmy to my desk to get the autopsy results, okay? Be right back."
"Hey, man, you alright?" The man catches me off guard as he slowly approaches me and puts a hand on my shoulder.
"Yeah, I just knew the guy too well. He was a wonderful person. One of the best," I mutter, tears forming, but I quickly wipe them away.
"I could tell. Anyways, here's the autopsy report, I also found this letter in his pocket." he says, while slowly handing them over to me. "I did my best. Good luck."
"Thank you." I swiftly grab the report and letter and scurry like a furry out of the building.
Outside, I finally have the time to read over the autopsy report. I unfold the letter first. Written in the center of the otherwise blank page, it reads "She holds it until the truth." Confused, I decide to put the letter back in my pocket for later. Wonder what the letter's for, though.
Then, I read over the autopsy report. Decedent, Devan Srsly. Filipino, male, and 21. Used to be a stripper, all the stuff we already know. Type of death... Violent? W -What the hell? I scan over to the marks and wounds section. Rope marks were found around his chest, ankles, and wrists. Scars were also found on his right arm. The knife wound was the only actual wound found. The knife wound, despite being in the area the heart would seem to be, had actually slightly missed his heart. The actual heart was not harmed in any way. There were also signs of drugs in his blood. I finish reading that section with wide eyes. Drugs... rope marks? Devan, what the hell happened to you...
I look over to the bottom part of the autopsy report. Probable causes of death, drug abuse and blood loss. Drug abuse? He wasn't the type to do something like that... right? I need more information.
