1 WEEK LATER

"Daniel what are you doing?" Emily asked rolling over in bed to look at him.

It was 6am, on a Sunday.

"I got a call from work, they asked me to come in this morning," he said quickly pulling on his work pants.

"It's Sunday," she said.

"I know baby, I'm sorry," he said planting a kiss on her forehead.

"When will you be home?"

"By 3 at the latest."

"Daniel that's not the morning, that's practically the whole day," she said sulkily.

"I'm sorry, I'll make it up to you I promise," he said.

"Okay, I love you."

"I love you too."

Daniel left leaving the house silent until a bang of thunder ripped through the air causing Emily to jump.

"Shit! That was loud," Emily said.

She sat up in bed and looked out the window. The sky was clouded over and a flash of lightning lit up the house. Another crack of thunder pierced through the air and a cry came from the nursery.

"I'm coming sweetpea," Emily said sliding out of bed.

Another bolt of lightning, followed by a loud roar of thunder caused the cries to become louder as Emily walked down the hall.

"Mummy's here," she said picking him up out of the cot.

"Mummy," he cried into her shoulder as another boom of thunder was heard.

"Shh, don't cry," she said bouncing him up and down gently.

"Scary," he said quietly.

"It's just noise sweet heart, it'll stop soon," she said.

"Scary," he said again.

"Do you want to go down and have some breakfast?" She asked gently.

"Yummy," he said looking up at her.

"Alright let's go," she said carrying him out if the nursery and down the stairs.

"What do you want this morning?" She asked.

"Berries?" He asked sweetly.

"Okay, what about berries and yogurt?"

"No yogurt," he said in return.

"Well you can just have berries."

"Berries!"

"What about with some banana?"

"Naana!" He squealed.

"Okay then, looks like it's berries and banana."

She out him down on the ground and started to cut up the banana and raspberries. Another flash of lightning lit up the room and Thomas looked at her with his big brown eyes.

"Flashing light!" She said.

"Bright," he said.

"Do you like the flashing light?"

"Yes, pretty," he replied.

"How many raspberries do you want?"

"No raspberries," he said.

"You said you wanted berries."

"Strawberries," he replied.

"You know you can't have strawberries unless daddy is here to cut them up for you," she said.
