Robots and fighting and war, oh my!

Amidst the clashing of metal on metal, the zing of laser fire, and the  probability of any of this happening, your mind was in a predicament trying to figure out what of those three things was higher up on the weirdness scale.

Your friends were crouched beside you behind the metal shipping container, shivering because they were in light clothing, but cheering on the blue, green, and yellow robots like twenty foot tall machines duking it out in casual suburbia and in the quiet little hick town of Jasper, Nevada was an everyday natural occurrence for them.

Now, you had been preparing yourself for weirdness. The Internet had prepped you for the most ridiculous things, you've read of weird happenings, and you had even experienced one or two. But they were things like "turns out bread spoils quicker out of the refrigerator than in it" and "the recipes to make slime are actually harder than it seems because Chemistry is a delicate thing for some reason", not "metal behemoths patrolling around as cars and ambushing people like muggers, who seem to have different gangs/factions in which they fight constantly."

Fun times.

You have questioned many things while living on this planet. You suspected you would question many more. One thing you thought that you would never question was:

Is Jasper actually cooler and more exciting than my entire life has previously led me to believe?

Sometimes you wondered how you could possibly not be taking drugs.

After a short time period, the purple and silver robots retreated back into the swirly portal with their metaphorical tails between their legs (at least the ones that were left alive). There were some still on the ground, laying in whatever version of blood that they had, which was a greenish bluish metallic looking substance.

The green robot was the one who turned to the shipping crates first, a large grin on its face (was it even call a face to it?)

"Hey Miko, did I look cool this time?" He said, the baritone voice telling you that the robot was a male.

Miko, instead of running away like a perfectly sane person, jumped up and ran toward him, pumping her arm up and down, hand in a fist.

"Yeah Bulk, you totally destroyed those bots!"

Miko seemed to trigger something in the other robots and your friends that had stayed. Jack and Raf immediately uncrouched and jogged to the blue and yellow robots, exclaiming congratulations.

You weren't paying attention because you were about to run away. You know, tiptoe slyly out of the area, eat a bunch of sugar and conk out afterwards, hopefully forgetting whatever had just happened right in front of you.

But nope. The universe was not going to allow that, apparently.

The yellow robot beeped and whirred to its companions.

"The other human?" The blue one responded in a feminine voice, apparently able to understand the yellow robots weird speak. Miko gasped and ran towards the containers,
and before you could duck away, she had skittered to you and grabbed your hand, pulling you out of the shadows and into the moonlight.

"Okay guys, this is our friend we've been talking about! Say hello to Spin!"

Silence permeated the air for a second, then the yellow robot chittered and waved a servo, his door wings fluttering slightly. Okay, that was cute. You waved back shyly, feeling your face grow hot.
