Charlotte

Please.

I hadn't meant to sound so needy, but as soon as the word was off of my lips, something washed over Luca. He liked me begging. Tempting him, daring him, giving him permission. In some twisted gentlemanly way, the big, bad mafia Don who was used to taking what he wanted had waited for my invitation. And I had a feeling now that I gave it to him, there would be no holding back.

And that was okay with me.

Luca put his finger to my chin, catching my gaze with the deepest of brown eyes. He was intoxicating, every single bit of him, and as I stared into his eyes, I felt his grip on my heart tighten. Every rational part of me was screaming to run. To throw him out and stop this before we crossed a line we'd never come back from. It was useless, though. I had imagined this moment, and what might come next, for weeks, and my traitorous body was aching for his.

My heart was nearly thumping out of my chest as he leaned into me, pressing his lips into mine. Slowly at first, and then feverishly, with every bit of pent-up passion he harnessed over the last several weeks. The kiss was hungry and raw and as his lips glided over mine, I felt lightening in my veins. As he intertwined his fingers in my hair, I put my arms around him, both of us eager to deepen the kiss. The connection. The spark between us. Everything around me faded and all I could focus on was the roughness of his stubble against my chin, the hypnotic taste of his lips on mine, and the familiarity in how he touched my body. Like he'd been doing it his entire life. Like we were both made for this moment.

I was lost in him, and I didn't care if I was ever found.

Luca pulled away, his teeth scraping ever so gently against my lower lip. I was flushed and out of breath, and yet I had an agonizing ache for more. He rested his forehead against mine, taking a second to catch his breath before he spoke.

"I'm no good for you, Charlotte." He whispered. "You deserve someone who can give you the life and the family you want, and that's not me."

"Why don't you let me be the judge of that?" I grabbed his hand, leading him back toward my bedroom.

It might have been the whiskey taking over, but I needed Luca. I may wake up to regret it in the morning, but right now, I had never been more sure of anything in my life.

"You're sure about this?" He asked, fumbling with the buttons on his shirt. "We don't have to do this. I could cook you dinner or..."

I cut him off with a kiss. "I'm sure, Luca. No matter how insane this may be, I want you."

Relief washed over his face. He wanted this just as badly as I did, but he didn't want to push me. It was sweet—a side to him I wasn't expecting.

Luca

I was usually a pretty perceptive guy, but I had to admit, my heart nearly stopped the second Charlotte started leading me back toward her bedroom. I was completely caught off guard. This wasn't my intention when I came over here this afternoon, but I was fucking ecstatic that it had evolved this way.

A woman like Charlotte, with her sensibility and sweet demeanor had no business with a villain like me. Someday she would figure that out, but I was content to ride the wave until she did.

Laying Charlotte back on the bed, I peeled her clothes off until she was left in just her bra and underwear. Her body had healed since the last time I had seen her this way, but as I dragged my fingers along her ribcage, I could still see a few remnants of bruising.

"Does that hurt?" I asked, kissing the discoloration.

She shook her head. "No, it feels perfect."

"Good." I whispered, fingering the clasp of her bra until it fell open.
