Your head swimming, you stared at the ceiling of your dorm, fighting the emotions that were heating up your body. Pulling strands of your hair out, you sat up and decided to get into your pajamas. Determined to stay strong, you walked to your nightstand one last time for the night, setting down your wand and reviewing your flashcards for the last time.
After a while of sleeping, your best friend finally joined you back in the dormitory, her voice slurred as she mumbled something about ice cubes. "Why are you talking about ice cubes?!" you questioned her, amused.
"They're just, the best!" she exclaimed, trying to sit down on the bed, but falling down instead. Helping her up, you sat down next to her on her bed as she leaned back, closing her eyes to rest a little bit.
"I need advice." you told her.
"Hm?"
"Advice, Y/F/N!!"
"Oh."
"So, Newt kissed me tonight." you choked out, tears returning. "I don't know how to feel. It's kind of like he– I don't know! He lies to me about his habit of hiding magical creatures and then hits me when I find out? I can tell he's sorry, but how do I know it's not gonna happen again?"
She sat there, pondering and jokingly rubbing her chin. "Hm. Well, you're a woman." she started quietly. "And women are people too. Just as much as men are. And if anyone, and I mean ANYONE, says women can't make choices for themselves, YOU SLAP THEM IN THE FACE LIKE NEWT SLAPPED YOU!" She was full on screaming by now. "I don't know what I'm trying to say, but I do know that I'm saying you choose whether to forgive him since you're independent."
You smiled and thanked her, tucking her into bed and whispering, "You need rest, buddy. Sweet dreams."
The next day, you spotted Newt outside the greenhouses, looking around uneasily. You watched in anything but shock as he ran towards the forbidden forest, probably off to feed his secret stash of animals. Rolling your eyes, you followed his quickly, yet quietly.
Once you caught up with him, you turned him around and immediately kissed his cheek. To your excitement, his blue eyes lit up in delight. "So you forgive me?" he asked.
"Yep." you said, hugging him. "Just promise me one thing, okay?"
"Yes!" he exclaimed. "Anything."
"Don't ever hit me again." you said.
"I promise." he whispered with truth in his voice, pulling you in for the warmest hug you've ever received. "I promise you, Y/N..."
