Playfully licking my face, I chuckled at loveable Lu as she pursued me to continue our walk. Smoothing down my pastel hoodie, we sprinted back to the gate and began to return back. But something was troubling Lu. Unlike her usual self, she began continuously barking at a nearby tree, clearly disturbed. Turning round, I scanned the area. Nothing. Cocking my head to one side, I calmly spoke, " What's up? Come here." , crouching to pick her up. However, to my utter surprise she jumped away, uncomfortable with the idea. For the first time, I saw something in Lu's eyes ; fear. And this scared me. Reaching for her, I stealthily grabbed my now shaking dog, and hooked her leader on. Scrambling, she willed me to put her back down - what was wrong? I once again scanned the area....nothing. But why was my panicked puppy behaving like this? I heard a chilling whimper from Lu as she looked past me. Then I was shaking. I convinced myself to be brave and reluctantly twisted in my heels.
Nothing.
And then I saw.
